The Weekend

Doing anything nice this weekend?

This weekend, I ought to do some reading and go to the supermarket, but I'd really rather plot some extravaganza of funfunfun as I sit here at work counting down the minutes. Go on, tell me to what you lot will be up.

I'll either be sitting around at my parent's house bored to tears or stuck on campus bored to tears. Either way, I'll probably spend most of the time browsing the 'lith.

Cycling! Taking Loomis up some hills on his new bike.

Other than that, lazing about reading, going out drinking tomorrow night, and procrastinating over doing any housework.

13:03 / 20.01.06
Practising my Chinese, and writing a little more of my novel. But taking it relatively easy. Last weekend was pretty hectic, what with familial obligations on the Saturday and visiting a rather ill friend in hospital on Sunday.

I'm sure a glass of whiskey will be involved at some point.

Looking over Cognitive Behavioural Theory sat am for presentation next week, long overdue phone call with good pal in Glasgow at precisely 11am tomorrow, reading up on Feminst Standpoint Theory at Bodleian library sat afternoon, working sat night in new Project Worker job, attending training day on Dissassociative Identity Disorder all day sunday, conducting case study for counselling training in evening, seeing sister to catch up somewhere in between the hecticness and hopefully watching loads of Celebrity Big Brother with lovely other and few glasses wine at end of each day.

I need to buy a new watch, some socks and a new long box. I will also be putting up ads for a new flatmate, cleaning the flat in preparation for prospective flatmates and doing a big supermarket shop.
This is all terribly dull and to make up for this I will hopefully be down the pub at some point, perhaps watching some of my X-files series 1 (which I got for only £15 - bargain!), having a smoke and maybe doing a little light Russian practice.

Off to see "Cock and bull story" tonight (hurrah!), birthday partying on Saturday with a coterie of horrible sloanes in support of a chum who needs protection from the advances of a comely blond, and writing dissertation on Sunday under inevitable myre of hangover gloom.

Reading a bookful, using my "Ignore The Pain" method to get through it, by which I syphon off the mounting physical discomfort that comes of reading Theory (while I'm finding Soussere and Barthes massively interesting to say the least, it hurts my head a bit).

Once I've collected a large enough dose of headsick in my SicSac, I put a brick of a kebab in there for weight, and then throw it in a canal of vodka.

Saturday: brush clearing, carpentry, concrete laying and probably getting a sunburn and some splinters. And quite dirty.

Sunday: having a very nice brunch with bottomless mimosas at a fancy hotel restaurant in honor of a friend's birthday.

So, a weekend of contrasts.

Today (Saturday), I'm heading down to the South end of Western Australia, specifically Esperance, for 5 days. Looking forward to doing nothing active at all. Lying on a beach, beer in hand, reading Nausea. Hopefully the weather will be a bit more consistant and hot. Summer so far has been a disappointment in terms of weather.

Oh and I've got Dr Caligari to watch too.

Today (Saturday) mixmage, the lovely boy, the silly dog and I are going to Three Cliffs in the Gower (Wales) for a grand day out with ham sandwiches and tomato soup in a flask.

I am unfeasibly excited owing in part to the fact that I haven't seen the sea or the countryside since I moved from Somerset and I really ought to go to bed in order to be fully prepared for the day ahead. But Mix is out DJ'ing and I am waiting for him to get back. Plus I also have a lovely bottle of Yellow Tail Australian Shiraz here which is helping to keep me up.

Saturday I'm cooking dinner for a young lady friend. This is possibly the most grown-up and sophisticated romantic thing I've done if not ever, then for a long time. In fact, a loooong time.

Sunday? I don't know ... go for a run over the park? Or maybe just a stroll, I nearly sprained my ankle on a bit of tree today.

Um ... why do you ask? ah I see, you're making Conversation! Lovely job.

I'm going to the beach to celebrate my grandmother's 82nd birthday, at which ocasion I shall reveal my new tattoo to my entire family.

should be fun

Last night (Fri) I took a friend to see Edward Scissorhands at the most unimpressive Sadler's Wells. Tho the venue looked like a very big porta-cabin, the ballet was amazing. V. convinced I was that the dancers truly enjoyed their jobs and the orchestra was spectacular.
Tonight is a different friend's birthday locally which the family and I will stop in to. Sunday evening sees yet another little party for one of my employees who's just reached her 1 year benchmark. Again with the family. In between all this I shall work dilligently still trying to make the world look better.
I know that there is a dronish night at Octipad in Belfast Rd for any interested Stokeyites(saturday, round about midnight) but I leave those late night parties to the young ones now. I would give a lot for a lazy day of eating in bed and reading but alas it's just not to be...

The cycling has been somewhat delayed due to the fact that we somehow ended up in the pub last night. Now recovering with tea and bagels and Radio Scotland. May head out later.
