I have to write to local bookshops asking for gifts we can give as prizes on World Book Day. Anyone had experience of doing this? What's the form?

I used be the assistant- manager (Wow!) of my local Hammicks (now Ottakers) bookstore. We always had a certain amount of stock we could write off for charitable purposes. Things to do. Get store manager's name and try to speak them. If it's a chain, contact the Head Office Marketing Department and find out if they do it centrally. Remember to highlight how much extra business World Book Day has generated for bookselling. (Harry Potter would've been a success anyway but WBD definitely helped.) Also that this will be good publicity.

I think some of my ex-minions (Gahh! CAN NOT believe I just wrote that.) are still in the trade so PM me... and I'll spill the beans. No extraordinary rendition required.

On a similar sort of note, I need to charidee stuff *into* book/music shops, with the rather enormous problem being that I can offer only a pitiful 10% trade discount, maximum. I found a few lovely places that are now selling our stuff out of the goodness of their little hearts, but most approaches are met with a stony silence. Any suggestions? Any ideas for alternative perks I can offer them, or useful threats to mutter at them?
