Sending money abroad

Has anyone had any experience of International Money Orders or other ways of sending euros to someone? I want to pay the deposit on a flat we're renting for a week - it's only €111 so I really don't want to pay a huge fee for doing it. I thought I could just get the equivalent of a postal order but both the Post Office and Bank were no help.

Hmmm. Do I need to know the recipient's bank details for that though? I was looking for more of a cheque replacement. But I might have to find out their info, if possible.

you can have it sent to their nearest WU office for collection.

Ok, thanks, that's a possibility - but they live in a little village and I don't want to force them to traipse all the way to the city for it.
I think I'll email them again and ask how other people do it. My rusty French can stretch that far, I'm sure...

I've used Western Union for some oversea poker type transactions and the fees are pretty outrageous. $20 on a $50 sent to Peru or Costa Rico.

Visit the place on South Bridge next to Subway, I think they do transfers, they have always been nicer and cheaper than the post office, so they might give you some pointers.

PayPal is a great way to send money oversees - no charges. I was recently in a similar position over something I was buying on Ebay from the States - and the guy I was buying from opened a PayPal account specially to save me the enormous transfer fees. Is this an option in your case?
