I'm trying to download some Wu-Tang stuff, maybe ten or so songs. I got Rza's "We Pop" and Method Man's "Judgement Day" so far. I might download "Reunited" because I remember it had that cool violin sound in the back. What are some of your favorites?

oh, so many...

the one i listened to last was 'afterparty', but i would recommend almost all of it. start with anything from the 36 chambers album and work from there.

oh, and you'll want shimmy shimmy ya for damn sure, whatever you get.

what have you heard?

I've listened to Rza's stuff, Bobby Digital, Gravediggaz, 36 Chambers years and years ago, the double album with Reunited (was that titled Reunited?). I've heard good things about Gza's album (Liquid Swords?).

Liquid Swords is fantastic, make sure you get hold of the (CD only track), "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth". Very different in style to the rest of the CD but none the less fantastic for it.

The first few solo albums were top notch.

Method Man - Tical

Many tracks are fairly run of the mill although a nice cameo by raekwon pops up and he even comes up with his own newly though up tortures at the end of Bring The Pain - I'll cut off your knee caps and make you kneel on the edge of a stair etc... which brightens things up.

Bring the Pain

Classic Wu Tang anthem dark, beautiful bass and a peach of a video if you can get a hold of it - Method Man with blank white eyes on the subway looks rather fucked up.

Release Yo' Delf

Sirens, trumpets and shouting. March around your domain to this and simultaneuosly piss off everyone in earshot. Sounds loud no matter what volume it is played at. There are a few good remixes of this kicking about.

ODB - Return to the 36 Chambers

A textbook example of how to make a fantastic album whilst pissed out of your brain. Should, along with Liquid Swords probably be listened to as a whole album. Recommended tracks

The Stomp
Brooklyn Zoo

Gza - Liquid Swords

Get the full album.

Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Links

This is regularly touted as one of the all time great hip-hop albums. My copy (well someone left it in my flat)is scratched beyond recognition. Would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts.

Ice Cream

Tack 15 on the album is one of the few I managed to salvage from the CD and it's cracker (featuring meth).

The 36 Chambers is impeccable from begining to end personal fasvourite has to be C.R.E.A.M

I remember this! Just downloaded it and it's great. It's like prize fighter music.

Liquid Swords is my favourite, and I'll second Illmatic's recommendation of "Basic Instructions". Also by GZA "Did Ya Say That" is pretty infectious. Ghostface Killah's "Assassination Day" is also top- one of those GF tracks where he sounds like he's constantly about to outrun himself and fall over his own feet, but always manages to rein it in. If Gravediggaz count I'd add "The Night The Earth Cried"- musically in a similar vein to "Basic Instructions".

And yes, "36 Chambers" is ace all the way through, as are "The W" (probably my favourite) and "Iron Flag"- "Wu-Tang Forever" suffers a little from being a double, but is about 70-80% great.

Favourite Wu-Tang songs? Are you kidding me? I've got around twenty astonishing albums that are affiliated to them in some way. Please say you're joking.

Prionsias, C.R.E.A.M is by far the greatest offering the Wu ever came up with. They've all lost it to some extent now, though Ghostface seems to get stronger with every record Supreme Clientele and The Pretty Toney album both have some great tracks, like Cherchez la Ghost and Metal Lungies.

Jack, the only one I still listen to now is the last ODB, A Son Unique, which although nigh on impossible to find in the shops can be downloaded all over the shop 'Lift Your Skirt' and 'Operator' are both absolute party bangers. Happy hunting...

B.I.B.L.E. is actually a Killah Priest track, Illmatic. I don't even think Gza's on it. It's on his (excellent, as I recall, but I never did get the copy I lent in '99 back) 'Heavy Mental' album. Not uncommon for the Wu to do this; I think ODB used to let Brooklyn Zoo(?) do one track per album of his. Easily the best, most convincing Wu offshoot on that album; his later stuff didn't really hit me up that well at all.

Accepting Seth's proviso as truth, I'd still go for 'It's Over', 'One step' ("your arm's tooo short to box with God") and "The Professional" from that. 'Pump Up your Fist' and 'Check for a Nigga' off Cappadonna's 'The Pillage' and 'Flaming Swords' and 'shining Star' (feat. ODB) from Sunz of Man's 'The Last Shall Be First' are other tangents I'd advise checking out, without hesitation.

Mainline, God... I really like 'Cherry Falls' from 'Birth of a Prince' right now of the recent stuff. Lovely sound. Rza's my favourite. That and the whole middle section of 'Bobby Digital in Stereo' (a film I anticipated hotly for some time until it became apparent it wasn't going to ever happen. Bill Sienkewicz cover too; he's done other hip-hop - EPMD, otoh) from 'NYC EVerything' to 'Terrorist', that, and 'Domestic Violence' which is sensationally harrowing stuff. The first 5-6 albums are all pretty much solid gold from 'Enter the Wu-Tang' to 'Ironman'.

Uhhh... 'Nigga Please' by ODB is the best album recorded by man.

I could go on.

Yeah, B.I.B.L.E.'s on Heavy Mental, but it was on Liquid Swords first.

Actually, now I come to think of it, Heavy Mental's a damn good album as well.

Ah, fuck it. Seth's right. Get it all.

No, I know that Stoat, I'm just saying it is a Killah Priest track. And Gza's not, iirc, on it.

Wu-Tang Clan

"Careful (click, click) from The W -this is one of the rawest fucking joints of all time. You can't get much less poppy than this shit. It is one of my favorites, but i picked this one because it gets NO FUCKING PROPS!!! MORE PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR THIS FUCKING NOISE!!

GZA
"4th Chamber" from Liquid Swords.-this whole album is amazing, probably my favorite Wu-Tang related album over all. But this song is the crown jewel. Plus, it has the "choose the sword and join me, choose the ball and join your mother, in death" from Shogun Assassin as the intro.

Method Man
"Release yo Delf" from Tical.-Yeah, i'm way down with this track too. this track is one of the RZA's best. "wheeeeeen i first came on the scene, niggas was petrified". The is no shortage of shit to love about this song!

Raekwon
"Ice water" from Cuban Links -"check out the rap kingpin/the black jesus/i know a few niggas sniffed coke and caught seizures" with the tremello string section and that guy going "aaaahhh". the bomb.

Old Dirty Bastard
"Return to the 36 Chambers"-it's hard to pick a song on this album because some of the best tracks kind of flow into one another and thats how they should be listened to. but "songs' that stand out to me are "the stomp" "raw hide" , even a song like "goin' down" which hardly is even a song, are amazing.

Ghostface
"Save me" and "Holla" from The Pretty Toney Album.-these songs are both incredible because there is almost no production. He just plays old Soul classics (the whole thing, lyrics and all ) and rhymes over them, and it is mindblowing.
