Mixtapes 2006

Seeing as we're having a lot of fun in the Top 5 Albums thread, I thought maybe a good way to start the year would be for some 'Best of 2005' mixes to get circulating. There's a lot that's been talked about that I'd love to hear and it'd give a chance for people to share their favourite tracks from otherwise less inspiring albums. Or even singles...

Plus, once this is over (or if you think it's a terrible idea...) here's a readymade thread for any further swaps this year.

So, any takers?

This is a mix I recently made for Dirty Ho of this parish. While a couple of things on it aren't strictly from 2005, I think everything on it is stuff I heard in 2005.

Side 1: Fight The Feeling
Blanket - It Ain't Easy
Michael Dracula - Destroy Yourself (JD Twitch Remix)
Bloc Party v. Pussycat Dolls - Banquet / Doncha (Aggro1 Bootleg)
The Mogs - Kelly Blame
Yoko Ono - Walking On Thin Ice (Felix Da Housecat Remix)
Vitalic - No Fun
Ellen Allien - Naked Rain
The Juan Maclean - Give Me Every Little Thing
The Knife - You Take My Breath Away
Ladytron - International Dateline

Side 2: Get The Guns Out
Terrah Danja feat. Hyper, Bruza, D Double E and Riko - Cock Back
The Kills - Love Is A Deserter
Roll Deep - When I'm 'Ere
Sway feat. Pyrelli - Up Your Speed
Mike Jones feat. Paul Wall & Killa Kyleone - What Ya Know About...
Avenue D feat. Reggie - Cock Rock
Missy Elliott - Can't Stop
Juelz Santana - I Am Crack
M.I.A. - Hombre
Paul Wall feat. Freeway - Rum Pum Pum
Kanye West feat. Cam'ron and Consequence - Gone

(Chef's note: if you can't get any Blanket, it occurs to me that 'The Beast and Dragon, Adored' by Spoon might do just as well to start this tape.)

Gah, wait, I totally misread the first post of this thread, which I thought was saying "share the tracklistings here, and then this thread can be the basis for swaps". Um, if anybody wants a tape, let me know. It will be a variation on the above...

Ah yes, to clarify: this is for people who want to swap CDs of mixes they've made of their favourite songs from the past year.

Also, having thought about it, I think the PM on request route is probably best (ie. if you want to share your mix then let us know and whoever wants one can PM you. Like, easy!)

And, er, that's it, really. Perhaps a preliminary cut-off point should be Jan 31st (just like tax returns...) but that's just to encourage interest/speedy responses...

I know I'd certainly enjoy putting together a 'best of '05' mix CD & hearing other peoples.

Interested parties get in touch.

I'd be up for a bit of swapshop. Mine is a mix a of dancehall, freak folk type stuff, some hip hop and the odd 'experimental' rock track. I'll put up a tracklist presently. Like Mike said PM if interested.

Well here goes, on reflection a lot of this stuff didn't make it into my top five, maybe because a few of these are the only good track on the album, or I just didn't listen to them enough, anyway:

The Street of Crocodiles Mix

1. Michael Rose - Babylon Bow
2. Common - The Corner
3. Damian Marley - Hey Girl with Rovleta Fraser
4. Fantan Mojah - Hungry
5. Foetus - (Not Adam)
6. Animal Collective - Fickle Cycle
7. Devendra Banhart - Longhaired Child
8. I Wayne - Living In Love
9. ODB - ODB, Don't Go Breaking My Heart with Macy Gray
10. Sizzla - Mount Zion
11. Turbulence - High Grade
12. Six Organs of Admittance - Saint Cloud
13. Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa - Polka z Sieradzkiego
14. Ariel Pink - Hardcore Pops Are Fun
15. Afri Rampo - I Did Are

Any takers?

Bumping this due to current mixtape interest. Any late takers for 'Best of '05' mixes...?

Do people want to keep Locust's thread going or all come over here for current mix-swapping? I mean, it's fine if you want to post in that other place but, you know, I had this one done up all special, like...

Anyways, PM for a mix, and I'm up for doing non-year-specific mixes too.

And FWIW, for the cautious, my experiences of Barbemixes last year were that they were all of the highest standard. A good cross-section of styles. It can be educational AND fun. And all free*, of course. All contributions are appreciated (by me, anyway)

(*Well, apart from CDRs, printing and postage costs, but you know what I mean)
