Are there really such things as shadow people? They could be a trick of the light in a dark room or they could be real. I have read on some sites that the peoples pets seem to act up when they are around. It is possible that these people could have been half asleep when they saw these things but it could also be possible that they weren't. There might be more of these things that remain hiding in the darkness of night or in the shadows of day watching. *shrugs* Though I highly doubt it...like I do most supernatural things.

I suspect that Shadow people, like energy-sucking Reptillians, crop circles, ghosts and etc. are all subjective names given by groups of people, to larger actual phenomena. All phenomena are natural/normal, the distinction between super/para/preter and just generic normal or natural being a false one, after all.

Sensing a dark presence in the room is a common symptom of sleep paralysis. I've experienced this a number of times, and it genuinely feels as if there's something nasty lurking in a corner. Whether there actually is or not is debatable. Is this what you mean?

there is an icelandic (maybe international) folkloric creature called Mara, that lays itself over you while you're sleeping, and causes nightmares which it feeds on, and keeps you paralysed too for good measure.

so this made me think, does sleep paralysis cause you to see things or do things cause sleep paralysis? i wonder if it's easy to prove that it the first way round.

The original post sounded as if it was talking about a phenomenon akin to apparitions, but the replies all seemed to center around the night hag idea.

I get to see "shadow people" all the time at my girlfriend's house. Balls of shadow, or smoke-like shadows, that appear in the corner of a room, or zip across the ceiling and walls. Granted, I thought I was just seeing things out of the corner of my eye at first...

When my girlfriend insisted that her house was haunted, I thought she was over-reacting to "normal" occurrences, but since then I've experienced these shadows first hand - and seen light versions of the same. If it wasn't for the fact that we both see them at the same time, and that her dog often freezes, sits, and watches them... I'd go see an eye doctor or a therapist.

Whether these are manifestations of psychic power, fifth dimensional wombat gods, or electromagnetic watchamathingies is beyond me.

One day, I'll care enough to bother investigating.

ummm... its not the only case of haunting I have been involved with, but my ex-girlfriend's house was haunted too... mainly by ghost cats, but we did see some people as well.

When I moved into my new home, I used to see a shadow cat running around and jumping on the furniture. I told a friend of mne about this and he said I should get a cat.
I waited and then one day I opened my window and saw this cat heading straight for me. She zipped into the open window and has been with me ever since. She is a sweetheart of a cat.

I have not seen the shadow cat since.

Hmm. slight occurances at my grandparents house they livei n PEarce arizona in the cochiese area. i dunno maybe it's hit in my head becuse there is this old mine that caved in back in peearces hayday and killed alot of miners and the towen kinda just shrivled up. but i've been outside smokeing on occashion not anymore though (quit WOO! ) but i saw this apperation (is that what you call it? ) if this thing that kinda looked like a i dunno.. somethin.. an Aura outline of a person it was dark blue and ran behind the bushes kinda or sumptin like that freaked me the hell out though. although the more i think about it the more i think it was your avarge mind playing trips.. but still freaky *shudder*. intresting about hauntings of cats.. i heard this story of one haunting of a cat and this lillte boy .these men killed this kids cat by boiling it and the cat is haunting this one place in ireland.. forgot the name and stuff but i'll look it up

Actually, seeing shadow things isn't a symptom of sleep paralysis. Seeing things while NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE (caps for loud threatening guy-who-made-the-twilight-zone voice) might be a symptom of sleep paralysis. Now, just because you see certain things when you can't move doesn't mean they're not really there.

Now the interesting thing about shadow people is that they're also seen head on. In other words, not through the corner of one's eye but right in front of somebody.

I just say this because what I've experienced, these shadow people perhaps are entities from another plane of existence, we can see them when they move near our world, when they move between the realities, I'm not sure of this....
