A Question about the Origin of Jack Hawksmoor

He wasn't strictly speaking from the Bleed at all, was he?

No, he was just a regular kid, wasn't he? And he was abducted by aliens an a fairly regular basis while growing up, during which the aliens operated on him to turn him into the city-symbiote he is today, in order to ward off some threat to the Earth that I don't recall right now. But he was from the standard WSU earth, and not from any parallel dimension or owt.
I think this was all explained in Stormwatch...I'll have a flick through my trades later and give full details, if you like.

Jack seems to have multiple origins, depending on who is writing him. I know Ellis ignored Millar's version.

Didn't Ellis CREATE him?

I thought he was from Raliegh?

What are Ellis & Millar's versions (in a nutshell)? The one listed above (aliens installing the city consciousness into him) is the one I remember.

Millar, i think, posited in the JENNY SPARKS miniseries that they weren't actually aliens at all, but humans from the far future.

These questions, however, pale in comparison to this one: If Jack Hawksmoor were in fact posting to an Internet message board, would he sign his posts like a foreign correspondent ending a report? "Alistair Fannydangle... from the Isle of Moo."

Ellis had the origin prettymuch as was stated. There was even a story where in an alternate earth (accessed via the BLEED) it was the Cheribum (you know, from wildCATS) that did the alterations. The Main Jack was altered by an unknown alien.

Miller later added the reason for this transformation to have to do with fighting giant Japanese Monsters. IIRC a godzilla analogue attacked Japan and Jack wore a city like a giant suit of anime-battle armor.

Ellis version: Hawksmoor was abducted by an unknown alien race and experimented on, possibly because they were drunk and needed a laugh.

Millar version: Hawksmoor was abducted by humans from the future, and transformed so he could wear the city of Tokyo as battle armor, and defeat a similar being created from the 70th-century Kansas City.

Ellis's Hawksmoor started out as a detective somewhat disgusted with violence (how quickly that ends). In cities, he had super strength, could basically fly, cling to walls, jump real high, didn't need to eat or drink (he absorbed pollution instead), and could speak to the cities in some way, or absorb their memories. There is a scene in Stormwatch where he turns a window into basically a vidset that plays back a scene it witnessed. Leaving a city would shortly kill him. Oh, he also travelled from city to city in a womb.

Millar's Hawksmoor could talk to the city and do many other things. He could make the city walls fall, he could absorb himself into the streets, or where the whole damn city as giant fighting robot armor.

Nuke this thread from space. It's the only way to be sure.

Careful Jack! He might slip and hit a Mythology Surgery thread.

This is nice. Look, I'm very unsure whether the n00b kid'll amount to anything and all, and I really cannot be arsed to wade through his stories, but it's just unpleasant.

Someone could've pm'd him to suggest he not sign his posts and/or double-post (comic?) stories. I thought about it last night, I really did. But it's too late now.

Also, Jack Hawksmoor does not infrequently broadcast from the Bleed, so there's that.

Lordy. Conversation? Or merciful delete? I mean, there's lots of fascinating information on Jack Hawksmoor in here, but in a way that just makes this worse.

In a way, yes, it does. I'd plump for delete, given my druthers.
