Anyone else remember this group? They were a "goth" band, quite prominent in the late 90's, which was when I discovered them, during my goth phase at college. It consisted of two girls, Tina Root (Vocals) and Susan Wallace (keyboards, programming) plus a male guitarist who changed every album. They did about three albums before the two girls split and went their own seperate ways. Tina Root now has a solo act called Tre'lux and is planning on releasing an album of covers, while Susan Wallace seems to have left the music industry entirely to become a massage therapist.
I've been relistening to their three albums recently and they're just as good as I remember. Their first album, "Serpentine Gallery", could be one of the greatest goth albums of the 90's (fuck, I'd even rank it among the 80's and late 70's). Just a chilly, atmospheric electronic goth masterpiece that you can dance to. The second album, "Bread and Jam for Frances", was a more experimental work, incorporating elements of drum and bass into their sound and it also found Tina Root (who has a stunning voice) branching out as a vocalist. Originally, I wasn't that fond of their third album, "Three Calamities", which dropped much of their goth sound to focus more on moody dance music, but it's grown on me over the years and sounds better to me now then it did back then. |
