Where from? America?

Krakov in Poland is good, especcially if you like cabbages and old nice architecture, and the Poles are a friendly bunch. Berlin...beautiful city, trees everywhere, stylish graffiti, history of the wall etc well worth a look. People there aren't as nice in Poland though, being more your typical stressed city types...mind you that's just a first impression...Prague's a good-un too. Seville, in Spain, has pretty gorgeous weather.

Being from Berlin, I can say, you shouldn´t visit in january. It´s too cold! Same goes for Poland.

Visiting Italy could be nice. How about Genoa?

Genoa was European Capital of Culture last year, so it was probably "brushed up" for that event. It´s got the largest aquarium in Europe. It has a nice port, and has one of the largest collections of Oriental art in Europe.

Vienna is lovely, and Prague even lovelier - like Vienna but human sized. As
Mistoffelees said though, winter's cold here in Central Europe. Venice? I've never
been there during the winter. It's wonderful, really wonderful, but I've
enjoyed it best during the Biennale. I love Santiago de Compostela in Spain too.
Slovenia, around Kranska Gora for instance, would be nice for skiing. Or Tirol.

I went to Venice and Verona for Christmas a few years back. I found those towns to be quite beautiful, and the people quite lovely and friendly.

However, it was pretty damn cold, though we did get plenty of sunshine.

There weren't that many tourists about so that was nice.

I'm going to Valencia for new year, and the weather's nice and mild at the moment. I'll give a deeper report when I return.

I've heard Venice is great to visit in the winter as it's empty of tourists... you have to watch out for the flooding though.

I would vote for Graz in Austria. Lovely little town, nice people, good beer, lots of Irishmen, big mountain in the middle with a big clock on top...

Center Parcs is your answer. They offer all that a discerning, but unfocused, holidaymaker could reasonably require. And they have sites in France, England, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. I bet they've got swing-ball.

Why not go to Amsterdam, it's a beautiful city, and the people are beautiful too. There are great flower shops to visit, along with boho squats, the van gogh museum, legalized head shops and a thriving sex industry. You can cycle everywhere too.

If you're in the UK at any point its a very quick and cheap plane flight.
