How, exactly, would you enchant something?

As silly as I feel using the word "enchant", this has been bugging me for a while.

Like, say, enchanting an article of clothing. Like you want a hooded sweatshirt to grant the attributes of whatever god/spirit/whatever to whomever puts it on. Or for protection or making yourself hard to pick out in a crowd.

I figure it'd be something along the lines of this whole consecration thing people are always going on about. Instead of making the object pure just dedicate it to the god/dess that embodies the attributes you want the object to have. <shrugs> Thats just my theory, I'm sure someone who's actually enchanted something will have more to say.

Not that i've actually done this but what I imagine you'd do is wear said item of clothing while invoking the qualities you desire.

Say, for example, you want to charge a
t-shirt with the ability to make you unnoticeable in a crowd.

Wear the t-shirt.

Select the god-form/person/comic character who has this quality.

Invoke them through whatever means you like (a topic in itself.)

Ask that the God or whatever charge the t-shirt so that in wearing it you are in effect wearing the God.

ONLY wear the t-shirt when you want to evoke this quality.

As an added aside, I'd suggest doing a quick call/prayer to the chosen God or whatever whenever you wear the t-shirt.
Sort of a "hi-remember-me-and-what-we-discussed-about-this-shirt?" thing.

Warewulf provides an excellent synopsis of how to an enchant an article of clothing. To these, I would recommend the following (optional) suggestions:

-Place on the T-Shirt an image which resonates with the intended god-form. (Warewulf's case, perhaps a symbol of invisibility)

-Call the t-shirt by the name of that god-form (I know that sounds silly, talking to a lump of cotton like it is a deity, but it works!)

While it may not be apporiate for a shirt, annointing the item to be enchanted with oils or bodily fluids can help as well.

I would use something other than clothing for the kind of thing you're talking about. If you want a magical focus you can take with you, something portable and discreet is probably best. Plus it leaves you open to further satorial options, sidestepping the issue of what do you do to be a god when hooded tops go out of style (not to mention the laundry issues if you like being a god on a daily basis.) Then again, there's the concept of ceremonial clothing for workings- but that might be a different thread.

I definitely have strong magical relationships with all my musical instruments, but I've never consecrated/enchanted/funkymojo'ed any of them. However, I've picked all of them up with fizzing magical sparkplug intent so many times that they kind of know what to do.

This thread has got me thinking about the possibilities of doing something a little more focused with objects. I currently have ten years worth of accumulated magical paraphenalia sitting on my windowsill: crystals, rune carvings, tarot decks, my runeset, buddha statues, eagle feathers and such. I tend not to use ceremonial tools too often, I prefer visualisation and journeying. But I find myself wondering if I've hit a point in my life where I should start amping things up a little: this seems like it would be a good way to do that.

Hmmm. Ponder. All a bit moot right now, too hung over to do any magic today anyway.

I'm no expert on this, but I would invoke power and enchant objects by dedicating them to the preferred deity and visualising the intent, filling chosen object with said intent.

Firstly, meditate on your intent. Visualise your objective. Think of the object that you wish to enchant.

Secondly, trick yourself into thinking that everytime you wear/carry/drink/eat that object, you'll get the powers you enchanted it with.

Ain't that what it's all about folks?
