Directed by Jon Favreau, of Made and Elf fame (likes the one-word title, I guess). Starring Dax Shepard and Tim Robbins (blech). Based on the children's book by Chris Van Allsburg, author of Jumanji and The Polar Express.

Who's seen it? Who liked it? Who hated it? Let's go, people. I need to know. I love Jon Favreau. There's not much that guy can do without me liking it. Disclosure: I did not see this at all. And I really wanted to. It seemed that it was in the theatres for about half an hour, and then - poof - gone like a house into space.

I haven't seen it, but as we're in a forum tangentially related to Grant Morrison comics, I thought I'd point out that the art reminds me of Rian Hughes Dare

Anyone know if Hughes did some work on this, or has he been plagiarized? Or is it just in my mind?

Well, if you ignore the fact that Hughes' art for Dare was based entirely on work that was popularised at least thirty years beforehand, then yes, they've ripped him off. Otherwise, no.

Saw it today after a long wait for it on DVD, and I have to say, it's probably one of the most enjoyable "kids" movies I've seen since The Incredibles.

The two main characters, two brothers, are played by nice interesting and non-grating children. I actually cared for the kids. Me.

Tim Robbins plays Tim Robbins for about five minutes and then he's off to work because he designs racecars. Woo. He wakes up the bitchy older sister who bitches about watching the brothers, who are fighting over who's better at whatever. Bitchy older sister goes back to sleep because she has a date and needs beauty sleep.

Then the youngest brother finds the boardgame and plays it and hurls the house into space. From there, the two brothers play the game, fighting a reprogrammed robot, avoiding a sun, getting hit by missiles from lizard-men, and rescuing a stranded astronaut, played by a scene-stealing Dax Shepard. He is easily the best part of the movie, and...

SPOILERS

The astronaut is actually the older brother from the future. Cool.

END SPOILERS

Anyway, the movie has some great special effects, including animatronics. The lizards kind of look like "Tokka" from TMNT: Secret of the Ooze:
