This is in no particular order (except for the last, which is number one):
1) Damien Rice - O --Yes, I know it came out last year or something like that, but I just discovered it. For all that, I love it; it's like having a thoughtful depressing British movie soundtrack in your head all the time.
2) "In California" - Neko Case --This is a cover by someone I don't know, but whatever the case, when Miss Case sings it, it's the most heartbreaking of love letters.
3) Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince - J.K. Rowling -- Oh, like you weren't waiting to see what was going to happen next. Easily the saddest death in literature this year (and no, it's not the boy wizard).
4) Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire -- Talk about King Kong, talk about Brokeback Mountain, talk about Chronicles of Narnia all you want, but this is was the movie I was waiting to see. Lived up to great expectations (pardon the Dickens reference) despite Mike Newell at the helm, and isn't Daniel Radcliffe coming along nicely?
5) Comedians of Comedy tour -- Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt, and Zach Galifianakis on tour. What's not to laugh about? Especially when you see Patton drunk off his ass in your local dive without his pants on.
6) New Pornographers - Twin Cinema -- Easily the best pop album that isn't a pop album in my book. Catchy, weird, and damn, there's that Neko Case again.
7) Lost -- This show gets better and better, and more complex than a Chinese puzzle box. This is the kind of thing TV execs should stay cottoned onto.
8) The Historian - Elizabeth Kostovaa -- Yeah, sure, it moves slower than your aunt on the buffet line, but when much like that instance, it's so weirdly rewarding when you get to the end.
9) Serenity -- the best little science fiction movie that could. And tried. And didn't. Nonetheless, Nathan Fillion remains my future ex-husband. "I'm serious. There could even be tears."
10) My last trip to New Orleans -- I went on vacation one week before Katrina. For those of you who don't know, I used to live there. I went back because I hadn't in a long while. I did, and it was the city that I had loved for most of my life. I took lots of beaautiful b&w pics. I rekindled my love affair with probably one of the most unique cities in America. A week after I left, it was left to rot by the American government. I was heartbroken and cried for a long long time. I still dream of how it used to be when I know it might never be the same again. If Tom allows it, I will post those pics I have on here. |
