Interpretations of a dream...

last nite I dreamt I met Papa Legba... there was someone who had contracted his aid against me, and it was during that adversary's bravado that I was introduced to him. However, as soon as said adversary was through with their rant and disappeared, apparently leaving me to Papa's whim, Papa (who was wearing the white face paint in the form of the skull) wiped off his makeup and acknowledged me in a favorable light; it seems he knew of me as a practicing magician and had a respect for me. Anyone have any frame of reference for this? Any interpretations or thoughts? I do not pretend to be that accomplished in 'the art' but lately have been more active and have felt myself advance a bit, but this seems big time maybe. Perhaps an invitation to work with the Loa? The interesting thing is I have never even delved into the Loa/Voodoun areas fo 'the art', so this is most unexpected.
I dont know and would appreciate the advice/interpretation

Something pretty similar happened to me a while ago, followed by a disturbing string of crossroads related coincidences, until I took the hint. Maybe do what I did; read around the subject, ask other people (lots of people here know this kind of work incredibly well), experiment.
One thing; the lwa could be said to be ambiguous in terms of identity and activity. Legba and Ghede often get confused due to the crossroads thing; it helps to have a clear idea of what you want. The old favourite, Divine Horsemen by Maya Deren is excellent for philosophical discussion on this problem.
Anyway, I know next to nothing about this stuff still. Anyone want to help me out here? Can you tell I'm rambling now?

How much of the dream do you accept as "true?" (Do you have a real-world adversary who might be trying to work voodoo on you?) And if so... this individual is going to *Papa Legba* for aid on some kind of vengeance thing??? (As opposed to one of the Barons or Carrefour/Kalfu?) (And on that note, was the figure introduced to you SPECIFICALLY by name as Papa Legba?)

From what I know, I'd be inclined to accept this at face value... perhaps somebody was attempting to use Voudon forces against you... and the Loa in question (whoever it was) felt the working was unjust and was giving you (bare minimum) a heads-up warning. (From what I know, the Loa, especially in the Rada family, can be resistant and unhelpful if summoned to aid acts that they think are against the proper current -- i.e., something that is out of tune with the world and with the practitioner's True Will (as opposed to the "will" in service of a fleeting, wrongheaded desire).

[For more insight... try to read Maya Deren's book in conjunction with seeing the film called DIVINE HORSEMEN (posthumously cut from Deren's Haitian film footage). You'll get a much fuller appreciation for the material. There was a link at www.greylodge.org for a bit-torent of this film, but I can't get it to work right now.]

Yeah, the skull-face makeup sounds more like a Baron or Ghede than Papa. Not saying it couldn't be, of course, but best to be sure of who you're dealing with.

well, thanks for the information. It has haelped, along with the reading I've been doing on my own.
Check this out.
Ok, I didnt have to think long about the idea that I may have someone out there who was trying to use voodoo against me - I do not. Luckily I have no enemies and definitely none that practice.
But then I remembered something. There is a person where I work that is very nice on the surface but underhanded and spiteful beneath and although I am one of the few that gets along with them at work (for the sake of making my life easier) they make my life more difficult in regards to other co-workers, so lately I have made several internal/external declarations that they need to be removed. Now, when they first started they showed me a voodoo protection charm from new orleans or somewhere voodoo-touristy like that that they carry with them always. Now having several protective servitors myself that often operate in strange ways I have begun to wonder if a) this is their charm, having been programmed to intercept possible threats by beginning a process that the Loa then rejected or b) if they actually practice and don't talk about it and are aware of their situation to myself and the other co-workers growing intolerance in regards to them and have tried to set in motion agressive defense mechanisms.
Did I mention that in the original dream this person played a part in the overall scenario against me, not being shown to be directly involved with the figure in the dream that actually told me they had cursed me through the Loa, but in a separate scene made lying manuevers against my job?
Also, in my reading I have found that Papa Legba, as the gateway to the other Loa, is asked 3 times for favors, and furthermore any offerings made to him are compelled 3 times because 3 is his number. Now, this was interesting because for several years I have had an ongoing, morphing relationship with the number 3, originally in the form of the number 111, and iin the last year or so this has changed into a near compulsive offering toward the number 3... ie so many daily things, like rinsing out a glass, sipping from a pint, whatever, I do it all three times successively. It would be at this point considered an invisible tick, one no one elsse notice but I have wondered about. However, when I think to combat it I have always just thought of it, literally as an offering to the number 3 for protection.
Guess Maybe Legba caught all that and is throwing me back a nod of thanks, ah?
Thanks Papa.
and thanks for the info 'lithers.
Anymore is still welcome as Ive used this as an opening to what will become an ongoing relationship with Legba.
Cheers

OK, first off you want to sort out some divination on this dream and see if there are any aspects to it that you're not getting. I don't think anybody else can really interpret the dream for you, because these things often contain a lot of non-verbal emotional material that doesn't really work in the re-telling. If you want to get to the bottom of it, I'd suggest meditation on what you can remember, combined with divination.

I'd also suggest a separate divination to try and find out what, if anything, is going on between you and the Man at the Gate. I'd recommend the I Ching for this. I know it's perhaps not the most obvious method - but for plain speaking on what is going on between you and the Gods, it's invaluable.

If you're moving things along in your relatioship with Legba, go slowly. The slow build up is always best in these situations. Give the relationship time to develop. Treat it like a relationship with another human being who you are just getting to know. Don't overstep the mark. Don't take the piss. Don't ask for anything that you're not prepared to pay for.
