The Flesh Happening - Thursday 8th Dec

Gig - Thursday 8th Dec down at the Engine Rooms, Brighton...

"This is a band who describe their sound as “Imagine Felicity Kendal, William S.Burroughs, Karen Carpenter and Jean Genet, at a naked, Ketamine-fuelled fondue party”, a band for whom unnecessary nudity is the norm and skewed sexual ideas, hinting at incestuous relationships (“Oh Grandma […]May I dress in your clothes again? May I wear your dentures?”) seem as mundane as tea." (this from a review on Brighton Underground website)

You can check out their own website where a sampler cd is obtainable for the mere exhange of sexual information.

There's also a write up on my blog of another of their gigs.

GIMPS especially welcomed as we're filming this show as part of pre-production for a film with the band exploring the main masochistic character of the songs.

OOoh, tempting, saw FH at the ER a few months ago, knowing nothing about them (seeing a mate's band on same bill) and they *rocked*.

Surely skewed sexual ideas and hinting at incestuous relationships are mundane as tea? Anyway, it's good to see somehow has picked up the parodic gauntlet thrown down by Toil.

Your mind is a mire of hunger and hate/Your body's the temple that you desecrate//This mind fucking soothes a little while/Helps you swallow back the bitter bile/Is this the punishment for your past sins?/Made you a cushion for your needles and pins

Well done all involved.

Yes, I bet they're not as good as your band, are they, Petey?

Fair enough. Whoops, that reminds me - must implement the new registration policy for the Music forum. People in bands only from now on!

Well, it was more along the lines of "less knee-jerk abuse of bands you probably haven't heard", but I woke up a bit grumpy and probably shouldn't have posted it.

Actually I think I'm at fault - there are several questions here, from "can you judge a band on the basis of their lyrics alone?" to "should you critique a band in a Gathering thread?" - I think the answers are probably "only in extreme cases" and "not really, it is a bit OUT OF ORDER", so please ignore me.

OK.
Back on topic, I thouroughly recommend 'The Flesh Happening' as a worthy watching experience if only for the singer's tendency to do disgusting things on stage.

It does sound good (they had me at "Felicity Kendal", to be honest)... unfortunately can't make Thursday. I'l try and check 'em out next time, though.

Petey: Any chance of putting down the hair trigger when discussing a band you presumably haven't seen/know almost nothing about.

Tbh, I probably wouldn't have been massively excited about them from looking at the website, but the live performance is really something else. Astonishing. And certainly in the context in which I saw it, pretty distinctive. Oh and wonderfully, beautifully, captial Q-Queer.

Weapons From The Wall;

How can you bear to look in the mirror, knowing the monster that you have become?!11!!?!!!

On the other hand, though, has Felicity Kendal ever taken Ketamine? I'd love her less if it turned out she had.
