Visualization

When people visualize something, say a glowing blue pentagram, how exactly are they supposed to see it? Is it supposed to be like seeing something on TV?

I just see kinda see it, not like TV more like its actually their in front of me - practice with a white rabbit imagine one on your desk or at the end of your bed and watch it wonder about see what it does..

I already see things zipping around my room. I keep thinking its one of the cats, but when I look down or behind me its gone. I don't want to drive myself crazy, visualizing a rabbit, it'd probably try to eat my face.

I have found personally that my visualisations are more akin to waking dreams, the type that can be superimposed upon my conscious sight. I found that 'dream work' helps to strengthen visualisation, as they seem to use the same part of the mind. Practice eyes closed, then eyes open, helps to remove visual distractions.
From what you posted about seeing things move about, this is more the thrid eye opening, and seeing subtle energy forms. Again this uses a similar part of the mind, but is less consciously active, though I am not saying it is a totally passive act.

My personal way of looking at sanity is this:
To be in-sane, one must be endorsed by sanity. I chose to denounce sanity, and become un-sane in my thoughts.

I've found that "air-drawing" symbols in the air, esp with a luminous item like a glow stick, can be highly effective when attempting to visualize.

Good idea - I just thought about something how about using paintshop, black background and draw the pentagram in white -stare at it - gnosis and then when you close your eyes you should still see it - would that be any good - I dunno maybe just a thought...

There is a difference between seeing something with the inner eye, as in superimposing a day-dream over your vision, and believing you are seeing with your physical vision, such as in a hallucination. The former I use for energy visualizations when I'm trying to project something. The later happens when I'm not expecting to see something, but see it anyway, such as with detecting subtle energies. Though in practice, both seem to work for me. I suppose its all a matter of how you process it.

Cusm, I ask your opinion.
I usely associate visualisation, the conscious act of implement intent with the imagination portion of the mind, creative process.
The thrid eye I treat as a sensory organ receiving data on subtle energies and channeling information

What do you think?

I suspect that to a certain point what we think of as the "third eye" is not perceiving additional bands of energy with our physical eyes, but rather perceiving these energies some other way, and then mapping it to the visual as a means to filter/accept/understand what we are receiving. In practice, it doesn't matter as its your belief that counts, but since I'm an incorragible theory bitch...

I think the difference is in how much we "preprocess" the data so far as deliniating between internal interpretation vs external reception. When the image is interpreted as valid visual data, such as we believe we are really seeing it with our eyes, it may be more "valid" of a reception of external energies. When we interpret it as a daydream overlay, it may be more from within than without. Or put another way, pure visual is less processed through our internal filters before being brought to our conscious awaress, whereas imagined images are more liekly filtered through our personal paradigms before we become aware of it.

So um, as a short answer, I think I agree with you, Will.

OK cool.
I like to add that I have had both occur simultaneously.
On eof the last sessions I worked in with a medium, I was coming out of a path working and saw the 'haze' outline of a small girl standing next to where she was sitting. In my HUD (waking superimposition) I saw her name, age e.t.c., then by drawing further back into my mind I was able to access pathces of her texture, such as clothing and hair.
I admit that in my experience I'm one of those people that doesn't hear things often. But it has happened, and was unsettling for me

Anyone else care to share their experiences? I feel that example is sometimesthe best answer to questions

I read the following in a book on hypnosis (not in a book in hypnosis):

To find out if someone is a good visualizer do the following...

Ask the to picture a pair of shoes. Then ask "What colour are they?" If they are good visualizers they'll reply quickly and sure of themselves.

Ok, now for something that I came up with.

Basically picture a charaxter. If it's too hard to visualize a complex character then just visualize a stick figure. Then make him go through some sort of stick figure world. As you'll be moving the stick figure person through his world you'll be able to eventually gain ability to visualize more detail until the stick world is more realistic and the stick figure person looks more and more like that person who keeps annoying you in the mirror.

Also, to see what visualization is...

Draw a circle, preferably black, on a piece of paper, preferably white. Now, without looking at the paper and picutre, reconstruct the image inside your head.

And, just for fun....

Visualize a mirror. What's reflected in it? Who is reflected in it? And stuff.
