Mobile phone purchasing help - advice request

Having the same phone for two and a half (plus) years means I've got no fucking clue where to start looking when it comes to mobiles. I'm wanting a new one in time for X-mas and was wondering if people could point out some I'd be interested in.

For comparison, what I've been using is this

Sony Ericsson T610

The wiki echoes what I think of it: the camera is like taking photos through a condom filled with vaseline; the signal strength is poor unless I'm standing in the middle of town; and the (lack of) memory space means I have to keep deleting all the txts the loveable baldy George sends me on a daily basis. I can store about 30-40 texts if I'm lucky. Not ideeeeaaal for someone who wants a phone with a good camera and a lot of txt message space. Hence, thread.

Saving graces: very user-friendly; small (important as I'm a tiny person with tiny pockets).

What I'm looking for in a phone is a high-quality camera and enough space to save a load of texts and photos and things like that. MP3 capability, radio, bluetooth and infrared would be nice but are completely optional.

Style: maybe something in a clamshell?

you might like the w800i.
it is the t610 pumped up on steroids.
i have heard excellent things about the nokia 6230 from my brother, so if sony are not your favourite you could give that a whirl.

both should be available on a contract for free at the moment.

bear in mind that the type of memory cardvaries and check out which are cheaper and more available before you buy.

oh, the w800i has kick ass headphones...

its a tossup.

there are also a few other options. fuck, phones are too numerous to be specific, really.
its horses for courses and even then some of the horses only differ superficially.

Clamshells all suck.

If you've been unable to store text messages it'll be because (a) you've got too many pictures eating up the memory or (b) you've put the texts on the SIM card - neither of which are good ideas.

If I was going to go for a phone which wasn't a smartphone right now it would be one of the latest Sony Ericssons with the good cameras - the K series are generally good. I've not encountered anything with better features as yet.

Thanks, toksi. If you have a w800i what do you think of it?

Fridge, what's wrong with clamshells? They're juss as good as any phone aren't they?

On the T610/txt storage issue. The phone gives you a fixed segment of space on it's memory card and that's yer lot. Other media on the phone don't count. I've not been saving them on the SIM card either.

Will look at the K series. What do people think of the Motorola V3?

the razor?
its shit.
looks kinda futuristic, but it sucks.

i dont have a w800i, but i have heard its good.
i do have the headphones the ones you get are based on, and they were awesome til they broke.

They're juss as good as any phone aren't they?
no.
they fuck up way more quickly.
the less moving parts the better, as a rule.
that said, i have been using a d500 for ages, and i like that. i did return the first one because the slide was rattling, but the replacemenet has been fine.

Ignore the f**king slogan, but the Nokia 6280 is a nice-feeling number. We did some work for this one, and for once I actually wanted this phone. The price tag might be higher since this one's got 3G, but its little brother the 6270 might also be a consideration. It slides small and actually feels, well, non-cheap. The N71 is also kind of nice, and built more for music.

I drive a 6670 at the moment - very usable but crap for sound. I think the series 60 interface is really getting better with the new phones, too. One of my colleagues got himself that SonyEricsson Walkman phone (the orange one) and he loves it to pieces.
