Wiki search function problem

I mentioned this in the "Our FAQ Has Been Destroyed" thread a couple of weeks back, and it still seems to be in a state of non-workingness. I get the following message when I try to search:

Database error
From Barbelith
For query "magick"
A database query syntax error has occurred. This could be because of an illegal search query (see Searching Barbelith), or it may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

SELECT cur_id,cur_namespace,cur_title,cur_text FROM cur,searchindex WHERE cur_id=si_page AND MATCH(si_title) AGAINST('+magick' IN BOOLEAN MODE) AND cur_namespace IN (0,9,11) LIMIT 0, 20

from within function "SearchEngine::showResults". MySQL returned error "1016: Can't open file: 'searchindex.MYI' (errno: 145)".

Can we fix this? Until it is fixed, let us avoid being all RTFM with n00bs (in deference to the fact that there is currently no FM to R).

I have a partially related concern about wikispam -- the latest few spambot edits have targeted "Main Page".

I was wondering if there was some way to take our main page and name it something else so the page named "Main Page" could be redirected to the WikiSpam page. The strategy worked with other pages with common names targeted by bots.

Damn, that’s some clever thinking, grant. Well, I don’t think that moving the content of the Main Page to somewhere else would be at all difficult - we’d just need Tom to change the links at the top of every barbelith page so they point to wherever it is that we *do* decide to put it all. And then we’d have to go through and edit every last wiki page that links back to the old main page, but that’s totally do-able. I can do that. I’m volunteering for that last job, I mean. If you want. Unskilled labour is my speciality.

But - about mordant’s problem - I don’t know about fixing the search function, but *is* it a wiki-crippling problem? It’s not a huge FAQ and the index on the main page seems to me to be quite well laid-out, but maybe I’m incapable of seeing what’s wrong - how could it be reorganised so people can more easily find what they’re looking for? Also, would this index of all pages help you at all?

There’s several sections could do with a damn good rewrite tbh, and I keep meaning to, but arrrgh time etc. Also, sorry mc - I saw your original post about this weeks ago and meant to say something and then totally forgot.

Also: a link back to invisible_al’s post about anti-spam extensions that can be installed. Just in case Tom is reading + wants to know about this stuff.

The wiki's search function it still broken. Just sayin'.

(Thanks to BH for the all-pages index, though.)

It's not when I put 'seven soldiers', as it just redirects to the main anno's page; perhaps if magick had a central page that'd help?

But it doesn't just not return a result for "magick"--I tried a lot of other queries as well and they don't show up either. It shows results for "tarot" but not "temple," for example. Also, it's not just telling us that there's no results for that query--it's showing an error, which seems odd.
