Pimp my Linux Install

I've dipped my toe in the waters of Linux by installing Ubuntu on my spare hard-drive but what else should be sticking on there?

I'm considering switching from Gnome to Enlightenment once I've had the chance to play around a bit. I'm aiming for the nicest desktop I can make, possible with some of those live-feed widgets I've seen around.

Ubuntu was certainly a much easier install than some of my Windows ones, stick the CD in tell it where to install and away it goes, didn't need to faff around with any settings afterwards, it just worked. Which was nice . So any other advice for the Linux n00b?

Dont be afraid of the command prompt. Learn it, and learn it well.

Are there multitrack audio recording systems that work on Linux?

I think this is the main thing that's keeping me from installing it on my old Compaq computers and networking them.
