Right there tends to be one of these every other year, which is a pain for those of us who have to grapple with them professionally, but the particular concern with this one is Clause 51 and the last debate in Parliament is on the 16th. This segues with the Terrorism Bill and the Refugee Council have prepared a nice briefing so rather than reinvent the wheel here's the link Briefing and their also doing a campaign on it which you can get sent info on if you sign up to their campaign briefings (if you don't, let me know and I'll PM you the details).

So in the spirit of kicking a man when he's down, lets try and make things a little more uncomfortable for Tony (Disclaimer - I'm not usually too concerned with parliamentery politics but these couple of bills have direct effects on me, my client group and my community so have given them my attention)

I'm still getting to grips with all of this but one quick question. s5 of the definition of terrorism reads:

In this act a reference to action taken for the porpuses of terrorism includes a reference to action taken for the benefit of a proscribed organisation.

Is it known who, in this context, gets to decide what is a proscribed organisation? Do they have to be proscribed by the UK government or is it simply groups that are proscribe by any nation?

HM Government. They already have a list (people like Hamas) that I believe includes some who are campaigning rather than directly involved in acts of violence or "terrorism".

Of late I've really started trying to get all the facts before I make comments. So...

Is it posible for me to get hold of this list? Not that who is on the list will make this rather iffy piece of legislation any better, but I would like to know.
