I went to a fiction reading at Foyles after work on a Friday once (there was wine served to entice you to do such a thing). Everyone I was with felt SOOOO virtuous for not being in the pub on a Friday after work that after the reading, the only thing to do was to go the pub and get shitfaced.

If one were to go on a series of intellidates, would one become known as INTELLIDATOR?

Seems likely.

According to the article in the Standard, people like Jemima Khan and Hugh Grant attend these things. Frankly, I'm all for the idea. Like Stoatie says, it keeps them out of the pubs, and they can all interbreed as much as they like. We win!

Geez, I'd forgotten about Bare-knuckle Chess.
I'm currently working on a game that alternates Sudoku and forcing other, less powerful males to groom you.
Oh, better say something about intellidating. Um... Gits!

"Whether it is dating or debating is debatable but this represents an opportunity for people who want intelligent dating,"

Shaftoe, you're making this up. I know you've got a thing for Gilbert & Sullivan pastiche.

Well it's all very well to 'diss'* the idea of 'intellidating,' but I actually 'scored' at one of these things.

I actually don't want to think about it too much right now, though.

Which seems ironic, seeing as the whole point of an intellidate, presumably, is that it is a (open bunny ears)'safe space'(close bunny ears) in which one can discuss one's thinking about things like Franz Kafka, for example.

It was kind of a bust though, my intellidate.

* Is this correct?

Bah, intellidating. What can you get out of it that you can't get out of following an attractive woman back to her house and watching her movements from the alleyway across the street?

The opportunity to enjoy the brief flash in the pan of a neologism bursting fitfully upon the language, then expiring, only to be scraped into the pauper's grave of dusty old trademarks and failed business ventures. All in the space of, what, a week?

How often do we get this much fun from a simple portmanteau word expressing the pitiful decline of the modern era in a ready-to-hate format?

Well, I don't know about you, Alex, but I find my local Wetherspoon's the best place for expounding my theories on Kafka. At about 3pm on a Friday.

Actually, most of my relationships have had a touch of the Kafka to them. Confused protagonist? Check. Bewildering narrative logic? Check. Shit endings? Check.

(Red Cross, the "Intimidating" bit was brilliant. I read it out to my wife, and she just about fell off the sofa laughing.)

Everyone going to the pub tonight now has to make sure that they have the most stupidly unintelligent conversations possible. Y'know talk about boobs and stuff.

Hopefully Hugh Grant will be passing on his way to the theatre and will faint clean away so I can pick his pockets and curl one off on his chest.
