So, what's this called?

This has happened to me several times. I'll suddenly think of something completely random, and the person I'm with will verbally express the thought. My sudden thoughts are much too obscure and random to be considered coincidences in relation to people's verbal expressions of them. I think something, and someone says it. What's up with that? Am I perdicting what people are going to say? Am I causing them to say stuff? What's this called? What's going on here?

Damn. I don't know if there's a name for it, but that happens to me all the time, too.

Perhaps our perceptions of time are a little squirrely and we are remembering things before they happen. (Completely talking out of my ass here. )

You have the gift and must be locked away..

Yeah stuff like this happens to me all the time too, seemed to be stronger when I was in my teens though...

I remember at college sitting in class humming the Steptoe and Son tune, the guy next to me got up and started singing the tune and walking like Steptoe, I told him what happened and then told him I would sing a song in my head and he had to tell me what it was and he got it right

And then another time when I had first started college I was too shy to say my idea for the short movie we had to make but another guy came out with my idea...

Not sure what its called probably "6th Sense" - anyway else remember a film that they havn't seen in years only to find out its on the following week

Actually this happens all the time to me, but only related with music. Whenever I think of a tune, someone else starts humming it. There must be a name for it. Besides low-level paranoia, of course.

*cracklecracklekzzzt* This is Golden Panther calling Blue Eagle. Come in, Blue Eagle. I got a code seven-four-niner on a high-school student in Florida. Yeah, that anarcho-commie Arab-loving bulletin board again. Hang on, I think one of their remote veiwing team has got a lock- Golden Panther out.

What I find more disturbing is I'm often thinking about particular things, and a few days later something closely related occurs. Like I'm thinking about a kids show, and can't remember the name of one of the characters and a couple of days later I'll hear people talking about it on the radio or something, and during this discussion they inadvertently answer my question. Or I'm looking for a book, not too intently but I'd like to run into it and then it arrives from some unexpected avenue at exactly the time I need it. Never on things I focus on, though.

They do have a word for it.
Synchronicity.

But grant, Synchronicity needs to be meaningful. Is knowing what songs people will be humming really that meaningful?

meaningful enough for people to start asking about it here, making connections, and finding commonalities.

I was curious about it too. Still am, come to think of it...

I don't know what exactly it is, I think perhaps it is telepathy, maybe you are sending your thoughts unaware, that's what's coming to my mind now....

Sometimes it can be a clue to my state of mind (either lyrically or sonically). Does anyone else find relevance in the song? If more than one person is doing it then there might be something applicable to the relationship.

I call it the River of Synchronicity. I experienced it a few years back for a period of a couple of weeks. I'd think of a song and the song would start playing. I'd mention a band to somebody and I'll hear them playing, etc.

Also the "thinking about something and other people start mentioning it" thing also happened to me for a period of time.

Why I call it a River of Synchronicity is because, as it seems to me, the effect is caused by a massive grouping of synchronicities which feedback information (though not to anyone in particular. so if I think of a song the synchronicity will cause the other person to think of the same song because when I'm in the river of synchronicities, I make my own synchroniciities). In other words, they are meaningfull coincidences which carry information useful to you to make more synchronicites. (Though don't think I'm dismissing the events as coincidences. I just say meaningful coincidences to better express the relationship of a synchronicity's meaning.) And it feels like you've dipped yourself in a rush, a river of synchronicities and you being "inside" the river has formed a current aganst you and this current allows you to pick up information.

Uh..

Perhaps there is a need for a rephrase.

It's when you get caught up in a flow of synchronicities that not only does one start experiencing synchronicities but one can also cause synchronicities to take place.

Maybe I'm talking about the Tao, the Process when I say a river of synchronicities?

some bubble breaking. or not. sometimes when this has happened to me, the person in question was acute enough to notice that s/he heard me humming it a few minutes before and that it had lodged in hir mind. i wonder if this happens a lot, someone humming without noticing and the other one picking it up without realizing it.

though on the other hand. me and my brother always know what the other is thinking almost all the time when we're in the same place.

I have this happen to me quite often. Earlier in my life I thought it to be because I *knew* someone so well I would get used to their way of thinking.

But now, I find I say the same thing as certain people at the same time, or even be sitting quietly, with no conversation and find out we have been having the same thoughts. Whereas with others I have known for a long time it doesn't happen quite as often.

The last month or so I have had the "random thought syndrome" though, with people I am in physical contant with, and those I am connected to, but not IRL. I will be sitting or reading, whatever, and this thought will suddenly pop into my head. For it to just show up there, with no rationalization as to why I would think that (the situation didn't match the thought) makes me wonder! I even got up out of bed one night just to post on a board, and as I was typing it out, someone asked a question my post turned out to be in response to.

Sometimes you have to wonder WHOS thoughts they really are to begin with...

"Say you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. Then maybe someone says 'plate' or 'shrimp', or 'plate of shrimp'. No use looking for it, either. Its all part of the cosmic unconscious."

"Did you do a lot of acid, Bob, back in the hippy days?"

Aah, Repo Man.

I like to think of it as a manifestation of the Tao. By moving in synch with the Way there is no friction between yourself and everything which is not self. Once there is no barrier you merge. Synchronities should occur as things get in synch.
