A mate of mine is playing at the Vibe Bar next week, if anyone fancies quality reggae and beer related frolics. Blurb below.

10th November
@ The Vibe Bar
91-95 Brick Lane
London E1

Doors: 7.30-11.30pm
FREE ENTRY!

Manifesto: Radikal Soul, Guerilla Funk, Rebel-Rap, Punky Reggae,
Agit-Dub
and anything that's saying something!

Special Guest Collaborators: JERRY DAMMERS (Specials/Bleedin' Legend!)
Plus: AKA RICHIE (The Rocksteady Ruler) & ALAN McKAY (Cool Down Sounds)

Resident Vinyl Activist: MISTAH BROWN (People's Radio)

Shoreditch has undergone some major changes over the last 10 years -
some
for better (When was the last time you saw anyone selling "Bulldog"
round
here???) - some for worse (No genuine Eastender can afford to rent a
cardboard box in Hoxton these days!). Seems too, like every week a new
dj
bar pops up where a traditional boozer used to be, looking to meet the
"needs" of the rapidly expanding "New East-end". And of course, while
they're focussing on trying to grab a piece of the action with their bad

mannered staff, bigoted door policies and over-priced, lowest common
denominator "entertainment" - the communities that were living, working
and
fighting for their rights here back when today's new wave wouldn't have
dreamed of setting foot anywhere as grubby as Brick Lane - get
forgotten.

In it's continued support of FREESPEECH! (And a fair few other sessions
that
I'm not gonna plug here!) Vibe has demonstrated a real commitment to
nite's
that are driven by ideas, integrity and above all - bloody great
music!!!

Of course that's just my opinion, but then, that's kinda the point isn't

it!?!

This month FREESPEECH! is lucky enough to kick off 10 days of events
celebrating 10 years of The Vibe Bar. Even better is the line-up we've
got
kicking it off: One of my musical heroes - JERRY DAMMERS - makes a
welcome
return to Brick Lane's original rebel music forum and has promised a
wicked
selection (We wouldn't expect anything else mate). He'll be joined at
the
decks by AKA RICHIE celebrating his thirty-three-and-a-third birthday(!)

with an extra classic, soul-fuelled bluesdance selection and ALAN McKAY
just
celebrating having one of the finest vinyl collections your likely to
ever
come across(!) Any excuse for a party us lot!!! What's your excuse???
See you there.

Sounds good to me.

Hmmm, me too, although "LOL" at the idea of the Vibe Bar looking down on places with "bad mannered staff", unless they've changed their own tendencies in that regard in the past 3 years...

The idea of the Vibe Bar looking down on other parts of Shoreditch for being poncey, bandwagon jumpers is inherently funny, but it sounds like a good night.

Illmatic: Is that Rich who I've met?

The Vibe Bar staff, aren't rude - they're just very important. Work permitting, I'll try to drop in on this one.

This sounds rather ace, I might try and make it.

I never found the Vibe bar/93 Feet east lot quite as rude as the SES/Bluu axis.

Admittedly, tiny degrees on the Too Important To Serve scale.

People still up for this or have you all exhausted yourselves after Tuesday? I'm still going - half eightish?

I'm still on for it.

I don't think I'll be able to make this, sorry - will be up in Highgate around 7, and the thought of going to Brick Lane from there is a bit... off-putting. Especially when I have lots of work to do tomorrow and so can't really engaged in a battle of wills with a large quantity of Red Stripe, much as I'd like to.

15 minutes' sleep last night, over a desk. Three hours the night before. I might not make it BECAUSE I AM DEAD OR DEADING OTHERS.

Intellidating up in Highgate again, yeah?

Hmm, my post does make it look as if the reason for not going from Highgate to Brick Lane could be something other than geographical... No, I'm only up there to see the headshrinker, no poetry readings or debating societies for me.

Well, I schlepped all the way over to Brick Lane instead of going straight home, and could see no one I recognised in the Vibe Bar. And no one I texted answered my messages to tell me where you were.
