How d'you turn an XBox or PS2 into a Multi-Region DVD player?

First off - any mods, feel free to move this thread to conversation, but I wanted to post it here because I felt it would get more exposure to people who'd know about Xboxen and/or PS2s in the Games & Gameplay forum.
Anyway. I have one of the new slimline PS2s, and an XBox, and would like to watch import DVDs on them, preferably through a software solution rather than a hardware mod. Any PS2 multi-region software I've seen only works on the old PS2. Anybody got any suggestions for me...?

As I remember it, the Xbox DVD drive is region-free until you plug the DVD remote thingy into your control pad. I know it's not exactly what you're after, but it should mean that you can import a US one and use the console to play American DVDs - could be useful if you've already got a standalone UK DVD player.

On the PS2, at least, you'll need to make sure that your TV can decode other signals, as well. For example, you might be able to unlock a US DVD to play, but if your TV doesn't decode NTSC, then you'll just get black-and-white/wonky picture.

My T.V. plays NTSC just...well, not fine, but watchable - I have a couple of NTSC Region 0 movies. Randy - that's interesting about the XBox DVD remote. D'you have a link on the subject, please?
Thanks for the responses!

Mmm, if I could find an online shop that stocks it...

I can't remember where I first read it, sorry, but if you do a Google search for something like Xbox DVD dongle region lock you'll find a lot of people mentioning it in passing. Here, for example (under 'DVD Reset').

Sorry Cloud, I remember seeing the Xregion DVD back in Game about 1 year ago and googled it.

Just found out that its no longer made, so it'd be a case of trying store shelves....

Randy - so, software plus a region 1 dongle could be the answer... nice one!
Supaglue - I tried pretty much every games shop in Dublin, and none of them ever stocked the XBox version of RegionX. There's a coupla good places around Tottenham Court Road in London, which I might try next time I'm over...
