Cheers.

Rather obvious, and you might be looking for more personal experiences etc., but at least its a place to start.

Found this here as well, Satan, Lucifer, Set-An etc...Very interesting.

Anything more to add? From test agent of God to Light bringer to embodiment of evil...What a bum rap for a basically loyal civil servant. Damn those Babylonians (literally).

Still a chilling chap to encounter, whichever you slice it.

This and this are strangely coincidental...

I believe Sutekh was not widely considered evil per se until the Hyksos invasion. Egyptians wrote about their Hyksos overlords that they worshipped Sutekh in place of Osiris.

For instance, from here:
"Their god is said to have been Seth..."
- Siegfried Morenz, Egyptian Religion

"[The Hyksos king] Apophis took to him Sutekh [Seth] for lord and served not any god that was in the whole land save only Sutekh [Seth]."
- Papyrus Sallier, I, I, 2-3

In Egyptian mythology, Apophis was the name of an evil, monster, serpent god. [The last Hyksos king also known as Apophis or Apepi.]

"Here it may be assumed that Seth stands for the Syrian god 'Baal', because of all foreign deities Baal alone is designated in later Egyptian texts by Seth's animal (its species cannot be determined with certainly)."
- Siegfried Morenz, Egyptian Religion

Despite the very commercial nature of the site, this is a reasonably good overview.

Reading through some of this, it looks a little like Set was just a rival God.

Obviously he's an important part of the myths aswell, and when looked at from an Alchemical perspective he could be seen as bringing about the stages of dissolution and seperation as he cuts Osiris into pieces, with Isis putting him back together in the conjunction.

chaos and order, set and horus, a very simplistic view point but works for me, unconsciousness and consciousness, the chaos of experiencing the self with no oraganisation no director, dismemberment, no singular self, as compared to the direct conscious point that is hourian focus, a concerted self organising structure.

Nephthys,Set, Osiris and Isis were the original Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice. Except that they were all full-blooded brothers and sisters. Set spends all eternity battling Horus; and Isis helps neither one of them. In the end, the followers of Set may be destroyed, but not Set himself. Nephthys crowned Set with horns when she got Osiris drunk and conceived Anubis by him. One papyrus has Set petitioning the elder gods that they banish Horus on the rather legalistic grounds that he was illegitimate because Osiris was dead when Isis extracted his sperm.

Going waaaay back in Egyptian history, Horus represented the daytime sky while Set the nighttime sky (The sun and moon were considered the eyes of Horus). They evolved in meaning from there
