Okay, so why is no-one talking about this game? I mean, we're all geeks together here, and here's a game that combines the two best things in the known universe - comics and games! Properly and everything!
I've been playing this for a few days now, and as a fan of the comic I'm really enjoying it. It continues the Venom story from about half-way through the run, and features more satisfying cameos and great fights that you can shake a web-shooter at.
Personal highlights so far include a battle with the Shocker that almost made me wet my pants (especially when I read the USM annual later that afternoon and caught the references... very funny), and there's battles with Wolverine, Electro and the Green Goblin to name but a few.
The graphics are really pretty cool as well, and capture the Bagley style amazingly well, with a neat mix of cell shading an 'shiny shadows' (don't know what theyre called really, but they pick out the muscles pretty well, and make it look a bit like everyone's wearing PVC).
Slight criticism though, because like Spider-Man 2 the game can be a little repetitive, with most boss battles involving a chase, then a fight and the narrative switches from Parker to Brock every mission, which is a wee bit annoying, but live-with-able.
The main selling point for the game though is the story. It's written by Bendis, is in continuity and features most of the ulti-verse. If you're like me, and get just a little bit excited when you hear your favourite characters speaking a moving about, then you'll love this too. The cutscenes are excellent and really funny sometimes too.
In all, recommended. What does anyone else think, and what other superhero games (based on the comics, not just the movie of the year...) do you want to play? |
