Now that I've got an internet connection of some speed (and that doesn't throttle too badly when the cap hits) I'm interested in looking at some of the netlabels that're around.

So I figured y'all would be able to help. I've got more links at work than at home at the moment (funnily enough), so I can only remember Webbed Hand Records at present, who specialise in very ambient, Robert Rich-stylee stuff. Which is kinda what I'm interested in: experimental, or ambient, or dronelike stuff. Stuff that'd be conducive to meditation. That kind of thing.

Does anyone have any suggestions about which labels are good? Genre doesn't really matter - I merely give pointers as to what I'm into... I'll willingly investigate anything!

SO, who's been downloading? And what albums should I really, really have?

Try Foxy Digitalis. There are 5, hour long podcasts, which are nice and varied. The label Larkfall seems to be modern folky, drone stuff. Just downloaded an album by XENIS EMPUTAE TRAVELLING BAND, which has droney, plonky environmental recordings all mixed up. Nice.

They're interesting, but they're constructed around the idea of ultimately, getting people to pay for stuff. Which is fine, but I'm wondering what labels out there follow the Webbed Hand example, and provide the whole shebang for nothing - for the sheer pleasure of sharing these musics with people.

Does anyone have any experience with these sort of things? Anyone put out anything themselves on a freebie netlabel?

(By that, I mean that Larkfall has one album - I'm wanting to find places that have whole catalogues. The idea appeals to me.)

Biosphere -- some of the tracks are really, really, really friggin' good. If you can afford it, I'd recommend Autour de la Lune, which is a stark departure from his earlier works; dark and mesmerising, which in my world makes it ideal for meditation (nee medication).
