House - UK Thread (spoilers)

Our Lady Has Left the Building

Can't believed we haven't had a full thread on this. Is no-one else watching this? We're about two thirds of the way through the season so the best is yet to come. Although 'maverick that breaks the rules and gets away with it' has been done before, sharp scripting and a great ensemble cast save this.

So what do people think?

I had been wondering if this would air in the U.K. As strange as it is for me to see Laurie in this role and with this accent, it must be ten times stranger for you all. I find House himself very compelling, but the medical mystery of the week set up can get a little old, at least until the more soapy, dramatic elements start building up.

I found the first few episodes fairly dire, I have to say. Tell me a bit about this great ensemble cast - what's interesting about the supporting characters?

I'm enjoying this, though as mentioned the main medical mystery each week gets old quite quickly. Hugh Laurie saves it though, watching him interact with characters, and in particular the supporting cast is a delight and turns this from a regulation medical drama into something better. It's also nice to see a doctor whose main motivation isn't necessarily helping people, it's more to do with intellectual curiosity.

I’ve been quite enjoying this show, in spite of my knee-jerk reactions about medical; shows (reason ? too damn many of them on the screen). But I like Laurie, and think he’s good in this, though the other characters sometimes seem a bit underwritten.

Was wondering after a few weeks if it wasn’t getting a bit samey – 50 mins of them being unable to figure it out, and then 7 or so of ‘ah, so that was what it was’, but they seem to have livened it up a bit with the introduction of the billionaire boss, and the tensions he brings.

Feels a bit as if the relationship (if one can call it that) between House and his female staff member (sorry, can’t remember any of the characters’ names offhand) is akin to that of Grissom and Sidle in CSI, but that may be me being unkind.

It's kind of lame how excited I was by this, but my friend pointed out that Dr Chase may well be better known as Billy Kennedy from that wellspring of antipodean actors - Neighbours.

I've snogged him. Wahey.

I thought the show was a bit crap, though. I saw the one where his (Jess/Billy's) Dad showed up. Just couldn't get that interested in any of the characters. Maybe a bit of back story on House helps? Perhaps we should interview him on Barbelith?

If I met that Hugh Laurie, I... I guess I'd slap him in the back, hard, with a knife, for having anything to do with this ghastly show.

The meeting when they pitched this -

'It's like Sherlock Holmes, but he's a doctor...'

'Really.'

'Yeah.'

'So he's...'

'Mm... Why don't you just (expletives deleted)?'
