The Daily Show... in the UK!

Tom Tit's Tot: A Girl!

I know at least one person in the UK will be wetting themselves at the prospect of watching this show every night.

Yes, The Daily Show, one of the wittiest, funniest, and hilariously hard-hitting fake news shows ever is coming to the UK. Jon Stewart will be beamed into your home every night starting on October 10th. Anyone else excited? I mean, I will continue to download it anyway, but will also be watching when it is broadcast.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

I'd love to see this, it's piqued my interest since I read America, a History. But what is More 4? Is it a freeview thing? Or is it terrestrial? Or some damn fangled interweb sky plus box various pay for this swine channel?

It's a new Channel 4 digital channel. I think that E4 is going Freeview and More 4 is going to be for the paying people only.

I for one am looking forward to this as I've heard only good things from people who have seen it, but didn't want to lose my remaining freetime to getting Torrents of it.

Nope, it's free free free!

Nice trailers too. I love Marty Sheen's "Now watch this drive".

Well, that was disappointing.

They edited the show so extensively it was hardly watchable, in my estimation. Completely cut the correspondent's segment, as well. How sad.

Bastards.

I love Marty Sheen's "Now watch this drive".

Really? It makes me think "Stop pretending the West Wing is biting political satire that makes right-wingers shake their fists in anger these days if indeed it ever was"...

I don't think it ever was a satire of the right. Bartlett is clearly, by our standards, something of a right-winger himself. But I think we've discussed that in the F,T&TV thread.

I just like it because I like Martin Sheen. And the gag is that it's one golfer who plays a President referencing another, isn't it?

So, is the Daily Show not half an hour long then? That's a bit of a poo. Still, enjoyed what I saw. "Uh-oh! You got McCain angry! You wouldn't like him when he's angry! McCAIN SMASH!"

Do you UK folk get Real Time with Bill Maher? It's funnier than Daily Show actually.

I was a little bit underwhelmed with my first Daily Show episode: I had suspected that what the broadsheets were calling brilliant subversive comedy might turn out to be Jon Stewart mugging after a clip of Bush or whoever saying something awful or dumb or awful and dumb. Fair enough, stunned silence or stupid faces might be a perfectly natural response, but I wonder if by missing out on some of the "this is why this is bad" stuff, the Daily Show helps perpetuate the idea that the Bush administration is some kind of weird aberration in American politics, rather than the natural conclusion to a whole lot of tendencies.

Having said that, the 'War On Terra' section was inspired - more like that, please.

Jon Stewart's mugging percentage has gone up considerably in the past year, which bugs me. But the political segments have gotten better and better, and the correspondent sections even funnier. I just wish Stewart wouldn't spend three minutes on his Jerry Lewis impression.
