An Rs-bandit, obviously.

Maybe that's the surprise.

Yes, I was grenade-bait from go. When I got tired of playing Dress Lord Fanny (eventually) I discovered this curious appendage.
I like to think I was the last of the riff-raff to get in before they tightened up registration.

I saw Grant Morrison on that Disinfo prog that was on channel 4, googled and now I'm here, with the Invisables comics sitting on my shelf. Kinda feels like close incounters of the 3rd kind, where they all end up at the mountain I remember barbelith when it was all gray and red, or did I dream that?

Yeah, when I joined it was grey and red. This would have been just post-Nexus, I think; I remember going to George's site, clicking the link, and being disappointed to discover a twisted heap of HTML.

Me being here is all Mick-Travis' fault, he showed me the forum before telling me it was all based on some comic book that sounded like the guy with the hand dipped in acid at Glastonbury had written it. Lurked for a while, got hooked, have only just started reading the Invisibles though, so have a lot to catch up on in this George (?) business...

I read the first invisibles book a while back and then forgot all about it.

I knew lots of friends that posted here and would often hear of arguments, theorys & flamewars that were all happening on 'Barbelith'- and ignored it thinking i was lucky not to be such a geek.

Fast forward a couple of years and i'm stuck back in a job where i'm behind a desk all day, the series of Big brother comes to an end and every forum that i read/ post on is populated with fools- i start reading Barbelith and waiting for the board to open again, and waiting, and waiting... (yup the should be up in a couple of weeks message was really annoying) I then hassled a couple of friends to ask Tom if i could join- Tom agrees and that was about a year ago... its been fun. still not re-read teh visbles though- in fact i've not read a comic in years...

My whole collection of Invisibles ended up being cut to pieces then thrown in my dumpster. No trace...nice and smooth.

Yeah. Totally.

so have a lot to catch up on in this George (?) business...

Yeah, I think I missed that memo too. So what, 'George' is his real name and 'Grant' is a pen name, something like that? How'd someone find this out?

just.....go.

I would just leave, but when I got here I parked my new goat-auto out front and one of you here had to vandalize it. No one wants to ride me back all the way to my side of town...there is still some beer left here...come on, ask your mom if I can stay over.

His real name is George. He used "Grant" when he was writing some anarchist sci-fi short stories in the early 80s, in magazines like Joint and New SF Review, and according to him "it stuck". I've got a couple of them in my cupboard somewhere, they're a bit obvious to be honest but you can tell there's a talent there.

If you look on eBay you can see that books of his signed "George Morrison" fetch a much higher price than ones signed "Grant Morrison" - though they're pretty rare, and quite a few are fakes.

Unusually, his middle name is George too.

G G Allin's middle name was George, and his first name too. That's just coincidence though - G(G)M didn't copy him as far as I'm aware.

JG Ballard was actually christened Jorge George Ballard. He lies about it now.

Fucker's caught a GOATFISH!
"George George Morrison" has a certain rhythm to it, like "Duck duck goose", or "doo doo ron".
Or "Bam Bam Bigelow".

This, incidentally, is a secret hint as to which suit on Barbelith is actually his - Morrison's rather than Morpheus'. George "Grant" Morrison... do you see?

I got the impression from the wiki that Monsieur Morrison stopped posting on Barbelith ages ago. Although it's fun every now and then to imagine that he's still around under cover of ficsuit. Like the ghost of Barbeliths Past. Or just trolling for shits and giggles.

George "Grant" Morrison.

G.G.M.

Do you see?

Rothkoid dragged me here a few years ago, but I've still not got around to reading the Invisibles yet. I'm saving it for my retirement.

IS he actually George George Morrison Morrison Weatherby James Dupree?

Wow. So many facets, that chap.

George is far too busy writing comics and spending time with his wonderful wife to come here.

William Sack
08:42 / 29.09.05
I have never read any Morrison's work, though I gather he is a fan of mine. He has sent me an e-mail in which he called me a "reliable woodsman" and praised my "assured cocksmanship."

I'm hoping this thread promotes a whole lot of "I AM GRANT!" posts.

In a sort of "I AM SPARTACUS!" way.

Grant Morrison = Norris from Coronation Street.

Haus used to be my fantasy "He isn't, but he might be." Morrison. Then I read some ancient threads of him dealing with a fellow called Knoodge. Now I think Haus is really Batman.

"They're all being hecky-quiet them old schoolers, (y'know the ones I mean: the mouthy ones) 'cause they don't like to admit it, but for all a them the answer's 'yes'."

This old-schooler tends to lurk a lot more than post these days, actually. And is bored of the question, since, like Petey already said, it's asked on at least an annual basis.

But, okay, herewegoagain:

Yes.

What, you want more than that? Oh, all right.

Used to read GM's Doom Patrol, gave up comics for a few years, got a job within a ten minute walk of five different comic shops, discovered GM was writing something new, started to buy it, got bored at work, hit Alta Vista (see! This was before Google was even a household name!), found Jay Babcock's site, he'd linked to the Invisibles onelist (see! before they'd become YahooGroups!), I signed up to that (about three weeks after it had started), was an active member there, Tom started The Nexus, so I signed up to that as well, and I've been a member (under various different guises) since then. Though I stopped visiting at all for about 18 months...

Next thread rehash: Where did your username come from? and so on....

So Anna- Where did your cryptic username come from? I dare you to start that thread, g'wan, I dare you...

i wonder...
why not rehash?
i have the same conversations with new people all the time in real life, why not online?
is it because you can ask google to find it all again?

i found the site through the invisbles, specifically that comment in the letter columns about egghead stoner motherfuckers.
took me about two or three years to act on it, but thatwas the seed.

i have to admit, i still feel that this site is an arm of the body invisible.
shit, i still referto myself as invisible on occasion.
i find it a good shorthand for what itake it to encapsulate.

also, yawn says it sometimes and i want everyone to think i am a cool like him.

iamascoolasyawniamascoolasyawniamascoolasyawn...
