This was inspired by Mordant's thread. Go there, make some yarn, then come here to talk about making it into cloth. We could take this is in a lot of directions, but one thing I'd like to ask to get the ball rolling is if anyone remembers how to make those cardboard looms like you did at primary school, you know?

Any loom is basically a load of parallel threads (Warp? Weft? Woof? I forget) that you weave the perpendicular threads through (maybe with a shuttle), the card looms were just loads of notches either end of the card to fix the threads in place.
I'm going to bully my SO to post here, or pass on her wisdom- she's got a fabulous hand loom and knows how to use it..

Aha!- they're Warp threads;
The warp threads are stretched lengthwise in the weaving loom. The weft, the cross-threads, are woven into the warp to make the cloth.
