Though I've not practiced it regularly in a while (due to my new apartment not having a tub train) I used to reach a wonderful state of consistent no mind through makeshift sensory deprevation. I would turn off the lights in the bathroom, plug the light coming in through the door and lie down in the tub, turning the water on and letting it rise to just above my ears. This effectively nullified my sense of sight and hearing, but slowly enough that the effect was gradual, not sudden and jarring. Having been born with no sense of smell, this allowed me to very easily enter the "void" for however long I chose to remain in the tub.
In this case, the void was helpful in that, in additon to the calm state alleviating my persistent neck pain, it also greatly alleviated any stresses I might have been feeling at the time.
While on the topic, does anyone have any effective means for entering the meditative void state. |
