This place feels far too reasoned and mature (I know, I've just scratched the surface, I'm sure) to just go ahead and start telling people what I think about leather pants without first presenting myself to the assembled council, so here I stand.

My name's Zach Smith, though I like to call myself Z. D. Smith when it comes to things I write or compose because it makes me feel more like an analytic philosopher. I seem to be something of a rarity around these parts, that is, an American, and hopefully I won't have to wear the dunce cap with the stars 'n stripes on it all the time, unless I want to. Anyhow, I've just worked through two of Desmond Skirrow's John Brock novels, and I was able to kind of figure out what he was talking about, most of the time.

I'm mostly a music man; I write music, I write about music, I listen to music. I'm a metalhead; I'm the guy who sticks his head in the indie rock threads merely to mention that he doesn't know any of the bands being discussed, but pretty surely they're terrible, and Emperor's much better anyhow. That said, I'm awfully happy to talk about jazz, classical, or electronic musics (and their various subgenres and subgenres), so I expect I'll be spending a lot of time in the music forum; even my very bare acquaintance with this board, I think, puts me in a very elite minority of Americans who have even the foggiest notion of what joycore is. Hopefully I'll think to engage myself in other areas too, and no doubt express very strongly and articulately many opinions on many very interesting topics about which I know absolutely nothing.

Oh, and I've got a blog, which I can plug, I guess, at http://apodion.net .

Oh, nuts. Just saw the bit about 'leaning against' introduction threads.

Welcome aboard, fellow citizen. If I can find my stars & stripes dunce cap, I'll fedex it to you.

So, you know joycore, but have you taken a side in the great ninja v. pirate schism? And are you prepared, also, for ass candling?

Those are the truly vital questions of the day.

Arrg--the sentence above has a massive typo and will soon be edited to "and are you prepared for ass candling."

(I won't tell you what they were doing to me to induce such a flagrant typo, but I'll just say it has something to do with the approach of my 4th anniversary on this site. It's not pretty, this fourth year ritual.)

I have spent many nights hunched by candlelight, agonizing over the NvP struggle. My studies have brought me out of the Ninja/Pirate dichotomy, into a pluralistic spectrum of archetypes, fanning out in front of me like a tarot card of Geek Chic. So, I'm gonna have to go with Hashshashin. As for the other bit, I can say only that the man who candles my ass does so at his own peril. Especially if that man is me.

"Hashshashin"
Hmmm, that's a new one, I think, and as far as completely inappropriate responses to the false dichotomy go, I think it's a winner.
Wellcome.

Don't worry Crux, Americans such as myself have done much to improve transatlantic relations on the board.

It's actually the other way around: unlike a lot of boards, some of which even insist on new members posting in an 'introductions' thread, this place is by and large mature enough that you can join in any discussion, and your post will be assessed on its own merits, regardless of whether you've "introduced" yourself first. Nothing wrong with these introduction threads, but I wouldn't want anyone to think they're protocol, or required in any way...

That Ninja is clearly in disguise in order to asassinate some scurvy dog or other (insert ass-ass- candling jokes here) and hasashin is close enough to Ninja for me. Welcome!

That's the coolest Pi-Ninja I've ever seen. Well, it's the first I've ever seen, but it's fucking cool.

Pi-Ninja.

There should be more of these.

Funny I thought ninjas were meant to be subtle? If that's a disguise than I think anyone who commits to ninja-dom is living a lie.

And frankly that Pirate-ja is a heresy. Get it off my screen. These enemies will never meet in the middle as long as I call myself a Pirate.

Clearly, that pirate is dressing as a ninja for the purposes of mockery.

Absolutely (rather than absubtly)- the Ninja is in disguise for a Costume Party, parodying (izzat a word?) stoopid buccaneers for comic effect, wheras the second vile crossbreed is just a pretentious pirate. On fire.
