I just realized that I should have posted this awhile ago, but I am luckily going to be going to an AIGA Design Conference in Boston tomorrow (Thursday 9-15 through Sunday 9-18).

Questions:
1. Any other designers going?

2. Bostoners: Please tell me your favorite
bars?
restaurants?
record stores?
book stores?
clothing stores?
historical sites?
general sights?

Leaving tomorrow morning...

Boston Common's lovely, and get out to Cambridge/ Davis Square if you can.

Comm. Ave. is handy - comic shop, Hello Kitty store - what more could a girl want? The roiad up to Harvard has some quality thrift stores, and at the Harvard end some good bookshops.

Woo, Boston! I love the Aquarium.
It's hard to generalize about Boston without knowing which town/neighborhood you'll be in. If you tell me that I can help out better. And what kind of food do you like, what kind of bar, what kind of clothes? Lordy, I need more information!

Off the top of my head --
The Crossroads (Boston) bar
Bukowskis (Boston & Cambridge) bar
Deluxe (South End) bar
Joe Sent Me (No. Cambridge) bar
Anna's Taqueria (several locations)
Newbury Comics (several locations) - music
Garment District (Cambridge) - 2nd hand clothes

Uhhh... I could go on & on but you might want to tell me where you're going to be based first.

Haus, I just can't resist poking fun - Comm Ave runs the length of the city and out into the suburbs, so, um....

Okay, Keith, I looked it up - you're going to be at the Hynes Convention Center. So, very nearby look for -

Bukowski's - it's off Boylston, I think King St.
Newbury Comics - on Newbury St.
Pho Pasteur - never eaten there, but I hear it's good (Vietnamese food)
Boston Commons - the big park, scenic spot

That's about the best I can do. The Back Bay is a very expensive part of town, hence why I never go there. Newbury Street is a long, touristy-yet-ritzy street that's about half high-end shopping and half high-end restaurants. Oh, and I think there's a bowling alley right next to Bukowskis.

Prolly too late, but, just in case....

Visit Comicopia, and say hi to Matt from me, (he's the grumpy one with the glasses), then wander down the road to The Other Side Cosmic Cafe, have a tuna melt and hang out with the bike couriers and techno nerds. After that, take a browse along Newberry Street, and make sure you pop into the Trident bookstore for coffee and books.

If you can manage a huge, starchy Jewish brunch, then go to Zaftigs in Brookline.

I can't think of anything else right now; it's been two years since I was there...

Please, please, please say 'hey' to the 'Make Way For Ducklings' statues on the Boston Common.

They rule.

Bukowski's is thirded, terrific beer selection, though as with all other Boston bars (except cigar bars) you have to step outside to smoke.

oh!
I got back Sunday night. It was...well, it was ok. the problem was that it rained virtually the entire time. so we didn't get to do too much stuff out and about...

also...my co-workers were a slight drag. and the days at the conference were really long, so i crashed early every night, unfortunately.

but i went up and down Newbury a couple times, and we did about half of the Freedom Trail, which I enjoyed. Never made it to the aquarium.

barely got to any good bars (like i said, co-workers were kind of a drag).

however, i really got the impression that i liked the city overall, and would love to go back with better friends and during some good weather!
