..and you lot are going to help me.

Fact is, when I finish my degree in May I'm going to be at a bit of a loose end and in need of something to look forward to, not to mention a spot of ready money and an excuse not to get a proper job straight away. A top forty single would fit the bill nicely, and would offer openings into all kinds of other stuff- most notably magickal stuff.

So, I'm enlisting the aid of any interested parties out there in the Magick (including persons of supernatural origin such as wishmeister Gek).

Advice, sigils, mojo, whatever, all welcome. Also, please feel free to tell me it's a lousy idea and will never work (Tell me I can't do something and I'll sweat blood to prove you wrong).

Let's do it. Let's boogie till we puke....

I am willing to help you in your endeavours MC. Please tell me what I can do. I really like to make sigils and if you want to you can check this one out.
It is a sigil for my friend and I have started a thread for it. If you can help my friend out, I would be obliged and very grateful to you.
So say the word dear MC and I am at your service!

I don't just do mangoes, y'know.

Mordant: what sort of music do you have in mind? I mean, If you want to sell a lot of CD-Singles the music has to be accessible to a wide variety of peeps.

Hrm... have you taken a look at "The Manual: How to Have a Number One the Easy Way" by the KLF lads, Bill Drummond and Jimmy Couty. They offer a money-back guarantee and all!

I'll help you out as long as you promise it'll be something worth listening to....

I reckon with a bit of *help* from a couple of servitors, or whatever else we can put together on barbelith, we could subjugate the entire top 10 list.

now that would be an achievement.

Why stop there? We could rig the first letter of each song title to spell out "barbelith" vertically....

Then again, there's something to be said for starting small.

well if we have the top 10 list in the palm of our hands, we can then re-invent pop music. Cos "pop" is just popular, right?

So if, eg. experimental-ambient-noise with gregorian chanting, happens to be popular, does that mean all the mindless shitheads out there in pop-music-land will go out and buy it?

The thought of an entire generation of 12 year olds trying to work out the lyrics to some song which is in enochian....

bwahahahahahahahaha

If it worked for Enigma, it can work for MC.

I think the marketing will be far more problematic than the music.

1) I ain't buying The Manual (coz there's already an online version, ho ho.)

2) I will indeed need the assistance of multiskilled music geeks, especially magick-aware ones who do songs about mangos that get stuck in people's heads for days on end and won't shift.

3) I probably won't be doing any of the practical stuff until sometime next year, brobably July/August. The intervening time will be spent finishing my degree (so's I don't have to do panto when my pop record is no longer popular), and in creating a servitor, invoking various suitable godforms, and generally doing loads and loads of magickal stuff. Not forgetting the really hard part- forcing myself to listen to Radio One.

4) It is highly unlikely that we're going to change the face of pop with this. But my dears, we are going to give it one fuck of a bad hair day....

If you can force yourself to listen to radio 1, forcing radio 1 to listen to you should be easy. Makes sense to me.

I'm in if you need me. Let me know what you have planned: me and my gear should be much more mobile by then.

I was going to suggest the Manual. But it depends: is it definitely a hit single you want, or was it just a cool thread title?

Papess

Maybe the logo should be a charged sigil. And I am in for album cover if that is cool. I hope you like magickal-erotic camp, but I am flexible.
I hate to be thinking practically so early on in the dream, but, even if the talent, recording, post-production work and designs are generously donated by 'lithers....how is the mass publication and advertising to be paid for? Or is that already accounted for? If not...might I suggest a working?

I've been struggling with sequencing softwarwe for months now with the same intention, MC. I can do beats and loops and stuff. You're welcome to sing on top. Maybe our Barbe-band could have even more members than So Solid Crew...

If I may provide a tip passed on by yet another synth band (the Pet Shop Boys):

Use of the chord progression c-minor, B-flat, A-flat, g-minor, is highly recommended, and results in instant hit-worthyness.

I don't know a damned thing about making music but if Mordant and her Carnival of Magiko DJs gets this record done...I'll buy a bunch of copies

PS. I'll also charge all the sigils and feed all the servitors and such.

I'll get in touch when things are more straightforward. Thanks for the offer!

Fun fact: Belle & Sebastian's single "Legal Man" was written and recorded following that formula...and they got a British top 20 single out of it. But I'm sure the fact that they were already a popular band was the primary factor...

Anyway, I think that Mordant Carnival should forget all this sigil/magik stuff and just have the Neptunes produce it, whatever it is... it works every time!

Do both. Whatever works.

Mordant, from what you posted about your timescale- summer 02- and the fact that you were moved to post about it now, I wonder if we should cook up a little something sooner rather than later, to plant a seed that will be all ready to flower when you're ready to rock and roll... incidentally, are you following the barbejam thread in the Gathering?

Fool, love that logo!

Can I be the vocally-crap one whose edginess keeps him in the band despite musical ineptitude? That would rock.

Coincidentally - does this mean you're coming to the barbejam, Mordant...?

Unlikely, now that I have contracted the Dreaded Barbelith Lurgi and cannot breathe, let alone sing.

It's not 'til mid-Jan.

Besides, breathy vocals are coming back in style.
