my dad played a lot and i caddied for him from when i was about ten. used to spend a half hour on the practice green at the end while he went in 'to sign his card' [read: have a beer at the nineteenth].

played at a local public course for a few years then at dad's group one course, where by the time i was about nineteen was on single figures. played two or more times a week for years. then moved to canberra where i had only a motorbike, so didn't join a club but played socially now and again with work mates, etc.

still years later i love to play but rarely do. last year was the first calendar year since i was ten i hadn't played a game of golf. but a few weeks ago, about thirty months since i played eighteen (and i had played only six or seven holes w/ dad a few weeks before at his course, first touch of the sticks since calendar year lay-off), i went out to a local track and shot my old handicap of yore, 8. i still got it!

i have great memories of vast wonderful sculpted landscapes lit by the last rays of the sun in blissful still weather, a last green and competitive blokes vying for excellence and a cold beer waiting at the clubhouse at the end of it. fantastic!

any other golfers? what do you like about golf? what do you get out of it? how often do you play? can i join you? or any vehement abusers of the royal sport? what upsets you?

you can leave the pin in...

and gamers-who-are-also-golfers, are there actually any good golf simulation games out there? i find that i get bored with them quickly when the computer skills don't have much correlation to the skills comprising good golf. recommendations? can't say i play a lot of computer games though, so haven't spent a great deal of time looking...
