Apparently the 19th of September 2005 is international talk like a pirate day.

Goddamn. This is a severe blow to the Ninja cause and should in no way be encouraged. I wonder if there's an international sneak like a ninja day- and if there was how would we know? How many Ninja are hiding in the room with you right now? Be afraid you eyepatched Polly-loving bastards. Arrr.

I saw that even the Hammersmith and Fulham Council are joining in, in spirit at least-- they are recreating the journey of the messenger who ran to announce the victory at Trafalgar 200 years ago, a suitable enough occasion to hobble about talking about pieces of 8 and asking people to shiver their timbers.

It is perhaps a teeny weeny bit ironic that this celebration of the dawn of Britain's global military superiority (believe it or not) is announced on a page also asking residents to participate in World Peace Week...

As being a pirate is one of the best ways of demonstrating the Pastafarian faith, it is also now a religious holiday. I wonder if employers will honour it?

Just to get you all into the spirit of Talk Like A Pirate day, here's a collection of absolutely fantastic Howard Pyle Illustrations, along with a weird computer generated mp3 version of the same book, which sounds like Stephen Hawkins.

Does anyone know of any other decent pirate resources?

Dammit Geckos, I was just coming on here to post that lovely Howard Pyle link. Some of those pictures are great.

Though this does remind me that I need to pick up volume two of Isaac The Pirate...

There is, indeed, a Day of the Ninja. It's December 5th, and this is the third year it's being celebrated.

I just introduced my co-workers to the concept and they are already practicing.

However, they seem to be laboring under the delusion that adding "yo ho" to the end of any sentence renders it pirate talk by default (as in, "I would like some pizza for lunch, yo ho!")

I may have to keel-haul them.

Inspired by the BBCs Blackbeard miniseries that's been on this week and with ITLAPD fast approaching, I'm currently sitting below decks with the crew inhaling sulphur in a test of buccaneering fortitude.

Yar!

Garr, I missed this'n so I did. Twas loosing both eyes in a boarding action off of the coast of America. The sea is a savage mistress to be sure, but a blunderbuss loaded with nails and broken crockery is a drunken one-night stand with the Devil itself!
