This feels wrong because I'm involved with it and don't want to be pushing my own work... but I hardly did anything and am in no way responsible for the films involved. Overly-enthused art-pimping rather than self-promo, basically. So, with clear conscience:
Sept 14-16th, Northern Michigan University will be hosting the Sweetgrass Cinema film fest, showcasing films ('A Thousand Roads', 'American Indian Graffiti', 'Doe Boy', et al) and composers, actors, directors, et cetera involved with the works. Climaxing with slam poetry for no other reason than it seemed a good idea and the poets all have films they're showing, too.
Some of the people showing are Chris Eyre, Randy Red Road, Shewin Bitsui, Brent Michael Davids... other people I can't think of right off the bat, which is no slight on them and just representative of my shit memory.
Yes, it's somewhat horribly located, in the 'lower Canada' portion of Michigan, but the quality of the works, and the people involved, is the draw, not the town. I can't be the only person to go x hours out of the way to watch a film in a theatre that's already been out on DVD for a month, can I?
Anyone interesting can call (906) 227-1397 for more information. If I'm violating some no-spam-unless-its-okeh-by-general-consensus rule, somebody can always wipe out this and the resulting (if any) thread.
If I can re-look-up how to post images, and find a quick host, I may throw the poster up, too. |
