ok, well, to make up for the waning enthusiasm for kanye's komeback, thought i'd share the hip-hop thang that's got me most excited recently. those of y'all in the states may already be aware of RIZE - the movie documenting clown/krump dancing made by david lachapelle - but it's yet to get a release in the UK. follow the link, watch the trailer.

and anyone attending ICFTHS this weekend will be given the chance to get it the hell on in public to Flii Stylz' 'Break it on down (Battlezone)' awesome. awesome. AWESOMENESS.

I've seen Krumped- David Lachapelles previous short film that Rize incorporates footage from and expands upon- it was shown on channel 4 a couple of times last year.

i'm a little worried that the schmaltzy voice over in the trailer will run in the movie and kill it- for me the rawness of Krumped, and that it was clearly shot with a tiny crew/ no money made it much more exciting- most of the trailer stuff is from Krumped- except the Voice over, the beauty set ups (the bits that look more glossy that the poster stills are taken from).

The main difference (judging by the trailer) sems to be where Krumped was documenting a movement a new narrative has been added with the introduction of 'the battlezone' and a grand finale of hopes, dreams and aspirations. I will definitely go and see it but also i'm curious to see how they have extended the original film.

(oh yeah- i know this is a music movie- but shouldn't this be in the TV/ Films forum rather than in music- I think more people may comment on it there?)

This was in that Chemicals video, too.

I dunno, I think a lot of the fun with breaking and popping is how effortlessly cool it looks. This obviously takes a lot of effort and it's all in your face.

Then again I listen to "Boogie Down Bronx" on repeat so I'm maybe a bit biased...
