This is an open invitation.
I’m interested in making a lot more music than I have in the past, for a number of reasons; I want to become a better and more diverse musician; I want to have a lot more finished work; I want to play with as many people as possible; I want to save money; and doing something creative is a lot cheaper than nights out.
My flat is all set up for recording, and I’d like to invite anyone who’s interested to come round and play and see what happens. Ideas can be shared via email in advance. If it’s a long journey then you’re welcome to crash. I have no multi-tracking facility, so I’m leaning more towards recording improvisations in as few takes as possible (you’re welcome to bring a multi-track if you own one/have access to one). As many new ideas and ways of playing as possible.
The idea is to set a time frame for discussing what we’re going to do (a few emails, maybe limit ourselves to one or two hours to plan). And then designate a time frame to get it recorded, maybe five hours, maybe less. The aim is not to do something earth shattering or perfect: it’s to work to deadlines and finish something, to work quickly, efficiently and imaginatively, trying new ideas. Mistakes, amateur inspiration and beginners luck are all encouraged. No experience required.
Because of space, and because I’ve always wanted to try it, I’m interested specifically in duets. Me and one other. I could be persuaded to expand to three though…
