Wands

IMHO i don't use wands enough. They're pretty potent phallic/will symbols, and seem to flow into any magickal psychology pretty well. Lately, I've tried using them for dreamworking. I have a dream bag that I'm working on/with, that I've bound to myself, and in it I have a variety of objects which I find useful in dreamworkings, one of which is a wand. The dreamwand that I use is generally use for more 'vulgar' stuff than I can achieve in real life, blowing down walls, slaying dinosaurs nightmare monsters, etc. I haven't been to big on ceremonial magick of late, so that's been my only use for them.

Thoughts, opinions, or tips?

Wands are a fantastic focus, what's a wizard without his wand? Are you thinking from any specific tradition or just general wandage?
Relatedly, I recently went to a great Wand Exhibition in London.

Heh, tips, I can think of a wand's tip. *sings* 'A Wizard's staff has a knob on the end...'

Funny this should come up again; I've got the oddest feeling that I'm going to be called upon to create a wand soon. I've got a bit of elder branch about nine or ten inches in length and maybe an inch across which is demanding to be hollowed out and turned into some sort of receptacle, but I don't I don't yet know for what. (Or why I would need a wand, when I've been doing just fine with finger, knife or big ol' hammer for most wavy purposes...)

I can understand the sudden feeling that a piece of wood is fit to be a wand, Mordant. I've got something like that.

Well, its not really a wand. Its more of a club. Its just a piece of wood that I found. I chiselled and shaved the bark off it by hand, and cleaned it up a bit. Its name came from the drawing of runes (the name which I can pronounce, but never remember how to spell, despite the fact that the runes are written right onto the side of the thing). Its...funky. I've found that holding it, or even visualizing holding it, calms me down. Just...focus and centers me.

How does one go about actually creating a wand, though? I mean, the process I used above was quite rough, not really refined. It works, but...I dunno. The way it was done seemed more basic and primal than skillfull, magically speaking.

Like all magical tools, I'd say personalise it to fit your style, then use it and carry it around a lot to make it loyal and empower it. Some people like crystals and carvings, some wrap things around it, some leave it natural. I've got three wands in the pipeline at the moment, they're just great objects to wave about.
