Insylum and The Ransom Model

Dennis Detwiller (he of Delta Green and Unknown Armies fame), has been experimenting with the Ransom Model of RPG funding by writing a game all about He Who Shall Not Be Named.

Basic scheme is that someone promises to 'free' a game when enough donations have been recieved. I've seen it done three times now, with Insylum, Meatbot Massacre by Greg Stolze and Daniel Solis, and In Spaaaace by Greg Stolze.

Dennis Detwiller was a bit suprised that a 'mysterious patron' stumped up the whole ammount he was demanding to release the game as a free PDF upon the world. But not enough to not roll with it and he's filled two 'tip jars' for new Dela Green chap books and other stuff via www.fundable.org.

That's a rather cool web front end for donations via paypal and the like, pity its only in Dollars at the moment but I hope that will change. Do people think that this could be a shift in the fortunes of Indie rpg writers? It's all rather exciting .

Dennis is finishing Insylum off as we speak and it should be published on his site in the next few weeks. Meanwhile here's the cover and the system to be going on with.
