Has anyone read any Sven Hassel books? I haven't but I'm kind of interested in doing so, so I'm looking for recommendations and tips from other folk.

Timeless classics one and all!
A german platoon made up of prisoners, supposdly based on true experience.
They spend more time murdering, raping and trading/stealing with the enemy than obeying orders.
I havn't read them in years but intend to dig them out this very night, lol. They are prime charity shop buys, so get on down to Oxfam and grab a few.
Anyone remember the characters?
Sven, the story teller was a wimp.
The Old Man was about 30.
The SS guy who they tried to kill at every oppertunity.
Tiny...who wasn't.
Some mad pikey in a top hat.
Aaahh,memories.

I can't remember the name of it but I read one Sven Hassel book when I was about 11. The plot was very linear and the characters seemed pretty one dimensional even for my immature brain. But the images conjured up by reading about a soldier who carries around the torso of a dead woman (so he can fuck it/her whenever he wants) were just too much for me at the time....
