I'm a big fan of using Football Manager 2005 as a means of killing time and partaking in one of my favourite past-times/playing out a favourite fantasy - namely that of being a football manager. From the people that bought us Championship Manager, Football Manager 2005 is fantastic.
Anyone else playing? Or anyone willing to counter argue that CM is still where it's at?
I usually opt for Forest (something fun about being in charge of an under achieving team with decent young players and a massive debt). Going for a counter-attacking 4-1-3-2 foramtion with a defensive midfielder anchoring between defence and three failry attacking mid's (the centre of the three being an out and out attacking mid) and then try and put a pacey forward alongside a tall target man.
As for tips - Lee Trundle from Cardiff and Sam Parking (who I think is at Swindon in the game) are both fantastic lower division attackers who, especially Parking, can perform very well in the Premiership - plus a young Dane called Marcus Berg seems to be very good. Of course Freddy Adu, the wunderkint of football, is a great signing and gets better each year, and for those with money Dede and Victor Kompany are both fantastic defensive players (Kompany playing as that anchor man).
I'm quite a few seasons in, in the Premiership, defending my title, trying to get the elusive FA Cup and going for the Champions League, I've also been asked to manage England (winning 8-0 in my first game in charge! - only a friendly, but still....)
Anyone? |
