So the new season kicked off - in the Football league at least (Scottish football was last week, the Premiership next). News so far - Strachan's Celtic looked shakey to say the least, following a 5-0 drubbing in Europe, they limped to a draw in their first game, allowing Rangers to get an early footup - and their mid-week heroics weren't enough to get them through to the next round in the Champions League. Southampton and Wolves, two teams in the championship with English Managerial touches (Glenn Hoddle at Wolves, Clive Woodward at Saints) ground themselves down to a scrappy 0-0, and Palace slipped up to Luton.

And Forest? In their first game in the third division, managed to get a 2-1 win under their belts against Huddersfield, taking an early lead through Scott Dobie (was that his first goal?) losing the lead to a clumsy challenge by Cullip allowing an equaliser from the spot, but then nipping back in front in the final moments thanks to a David Johnson goal. My thoughts, based on reports and what I've heard (as I've been working today), Forest looked okay, and with Johnson back in the side following a tiff with Megson, albeit as a late sub, we have a decent goal scorer in the side. However Megson's negative play seems to still be present. Too much last season he would try to kill games off tactically and slip up, and as we lacked the goal scoring talents of someone to get one back if needed, we found ourselves playing against the tide with a defending team. It's great that he has a decent looking defence in place, a nice mix of experience and talent, but it'd also be nice to give Commons the freedom to move about the pitch and do what he does best, by maybe playing a holding midfielder, rather than seeming to swap attackers for defenders after 60 minutes.
