O brother, where art thou?

This might meandre a bit.

On thursday night I saw my brother in the kitchen fixing a drink of juice before he went out. We had a small chat and a joke before he left. As far as I can tell all he had was his clothes and mobile phone.

That was 36 hours ago.

We haven't heard from him since.

Chris is nearly sixteen and bigger than I am. When I left he was (presumably?) in high spirits. My parents have gone out searching for him around our town in the car. We've sent repeated text's and calls to his phone, but it's turned off.

Local hospital's have not admitted anyone fitting his description, but my folks are going to check again later.

The dark current of this is that my brother is part of an online gaming group (who mostly play Counterstrike and other FPS')... Nothing bad in itself buuuttttt, my brother had been making plans to go with his clan (who consist of a meatspace friend and other players online from across the UK) to Sweden for an online tourney.

When he proposed this to my parents about three weeks ago they were "no way, unless you can bring us full details of EVERYONE you're going with". The only bit of contact information he gave them was of his meatspace friend.

Only my parents visited that address about two hours ago and it seems he never even existed.

Not quite sure what to think. All I can guess is that my brother faked - or as given - fake address and information and has gone to meet this other lad. Beyond that I dare not speculate.

As it's been over 24 hours my parents have called the police in to take details down and turn this into an official Missing Person investigation.

This thread is mainly for me to marshal my thoughts and to get everything down as I think of it. More information as it comes in.

Huggles etc would be appreciated.

Fuck.

Huggles granted unequivocally.

Don't want to offer false reassurances, but try not to jump to conclusions. Kids at that age do all sorts of stupid shit without thinking of how it'll affect those around them.

Huggles again.

Oh I know! I heard stories from mates in high school who ended up in the middle of fucking Wales with crate of Stella and broken flashlight. I've said this to my folks but obviously they're a bit more 'waah' than I am right now.

UPDATE: I was wrong about this non-existant kid. He's nothing to do with any internet shennanigans. My parents have said he was just a local mate who was supposed to live 5-10 minutes away. He still doesn't live where he's supposed to, though.

Man, that must be so scary! Meludreen's right, though--young lads his age aren't great at impulse control and sometimes go off adventuring without thinking.

You and your family are in my thoughts.

Does the PC he uses have any cookies or history of any Counterstrike forums? At the very least, his username is probably on his copy of the game by default. You've probably already thought of it, but it might be worth putting a request out on CS forums somewhere, just in case this is what he's done. Kids, eh? I had a friend run away from home only to turn up on our doorstep clutching a fiver and a packet of Digestives.

Huggles times a million, and hang on in there until, as I devoutly hope and as is most likely outcome, this turns into an amusing* anecdote about the crazy youthful hijinks of the small Triplet. Let us know if there's anything practical we can do...

*Possibly not amusing for a year or so, of course.

wondering if I can help? - my partner's been a big CS player for last few years and uses lots different servers. He's also been to a couple of LANS and knows quiet a few folk. Do you know what your brother's user/player name was? If so I can get him to get in touch with a few folk and ask around. Hope all turns out well.

Yes, what everyone else has said. Good luck.

I'd add that when I was little my brother was always pulling stunts like this. He'd say he was going to the cinema then disappear to a festival for the long weekend. God the arguments.

Touch wood, that you and your folks get to bawl at him soon.

Um... yes. Jesus. Huggles to you and your family, and hope that it all turns out okay. And huggles to your brother, because when he hopefully does turn up, he's gonna need 'em in the face of the kicking he's gonna get from you and yours.

But yes. Huggles and hope and good wishes.

In work right now. Message from my dad says he's just had a text from my brother's girlfriend's mobile saying he'll be home soon.

Sneaky fucking lothario!

Just logged in, read this thread, went "F**k! Oh no, that's horrible!", then "Oh man I hope he's OK", and then "Ohhhh thank f**k for that!"

Glad he's OK, Ms.T x

Glad he's okay also. My sister was always trying to pull stunts like this, but my dad would always catch her - I however, managed to slip through the net as a) they trusted me and b) er, I think that they didn't really notice I was gone. But yeah, glad he's okay.

Cripes - this thread was an emotional rollercoaster. Glad it all ended happily.

Why did I never pull this kind of stuff as a teeny?

Oy vey. I was about to offer reassurances that the one time one of my friends went missing, it turned out he was with his girlfriend the entire time. Glad that's what was going on here too. So glad that things are okay, dear.

I suggest that you have a chat with your brother about letting you know when he's going to do something like this. Sometimes it's a bit weird telling your parents where you're going but your siblings can be useful for fielding information (say for instance you decide to travel from England to America without telling your mum and dad because they'll be annoyed by money being spent on flights. Yes, my brother did that and only told me).

Your brother rules. Glad everything worked out well. For any further adventures he should probably give you at least an overall plan on when he'll be back so you guys don't worry too much in the future.
