You lot are so going to love this.

Anthology of zombie short stories being prepared for a November release, with proceeds going to Comic Relief.

But deadline is September 1st.

Things to check before you submit:

ยท Does this story feature zombies?

I am so doing this.

Think they'll take haiku?

Eloi Tsabaoth
08:57 / 05.08.05
I don't see why not. Zombies do like poetry. And fresh brains, of course.

Evil Scientist
09:12 / 05.08.05
I'm going to suggest "zombies" as the next pop.11 project. Kill two birds with one stone there.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Ooh.

We want rotting, lurching moaners and we want decomposing, rage filled sprinters. Your zombies can have brains or they can get eat brains. They can talk or they can wail. It's up to you. The only thing we insist upon is that in some way there is zombification.

Rockin'!

A pity its only stories and poems, else I could try to find an artist for two pages of my unknown, yet semi infamous (among those who've read it) Phone-Book Zombie!

Bard: One-Man Humaton Hoedown
21:25 / 11.08.05
...damn this is fun. Sax, thanks for directing us to this. 2100 words in, and...man. I'd forgotten how much fun it was to write about zombies.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:35 / 12.08.05
I've been hard at work on mine... zombie-tastic.

Bard: One-Man Humaton Hoedown
17:44 / 31.08.05
Deadline is tomorrow. How is everyone's stories going?

ONLY NICE THINGS
18:45 / 31.08.05
Alas, I have only written zombie-themed erotica, which is prohibited. I didn't mean to, but sometimes characters just take on a life of their own and fuck and fuck.

Haus! I'm horrified!

You're not supposed to go into the stereotype of undeadophiliac British writers! Bad Haus! Bad!

Bard: One-Man Humaton Hoedown
04:42 / 01.09.05
There. 5200 words off and submitted.

I submitted something which I suppose could be a renkku, but it's really just a chain of haiku.

About a zombie plague.

Unhappy ending, sort of. No-mind, no brains, no sorrow.

And Billie Holiday.

4,300 in four hours. I am teh king.

I hope they won't mind that it was a few hours past the deadline. Surely no-one can resist a light-hearted tale of everyday path lab folk featuring zombie mice?

Alex's Grandma
11:47 / 02.09.05
Dearie, I hope you'll forgive a silly old woman who's probably poking her nose in where it doesn't belong, but is describing yourself as 'teh king,' even nowadays, with all the changes in the world, really the best way to go about getting wed to a nice young man? Just my tuppence ha'penny.

Your story sounds lovely though. I wish you much success and happiness in your endeavours to win the grand prize.

Woo! So THIS is how zombies REALLY talk!

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
07:51 / 05.09.05
I missed the deadline, but I'm nearly at the end and I'm gonna finish the damn thing anyway. I'll post it somewhere... so far I'm quite pleased with it.

Whisky Priestess
12:44 / 05.09.05
post it here!

14:34 / 05.09.05
I second WP. I'm in the same boat as Stoatie (not sure when I'll be able to finish it, but I'm going to at some point soon), but I'd love to read everybody else's stories if they're willing to put them up here. Or, rather than breaking up the thread with a bunch of super-long posts, I could set up a blog and post the username/password here...

ONLY NICE THINGS

Those who did get stories in under the closing door may want to wait for them to be rejected or published before posting them here; the terms of the competition, IIRC, reserve first publication for "Zombie Aid", after which publication rights return to the individual. I don't know how Barbelith functions in those terms, but it might count as publication as this is a public forum...

That's a good point Haus. I wonder if that would also apply to someone posting a story here for critique and then eventually submitting it for publication somewhere.

12:08 / 06.09.05
My zombie tale missed the deadline and is going up on my pop.11 blog.
First two parts are up already, feel free to comment. I say feel free, but I barred anonymous comments since I got a SPAM comment, sorry. Feel free to comment if you're a blogger.
(pop.11 is the current Barbelith Writers' Group and zombies is the second exercise. Deadline flexible. Call it an undeadline *sting* eythangyaw.)

They got 1100 stories?

I doubt mine will make the cut then.

Where'd you get that number from? I can't find anything on the site.

Whisky Priestess
10:05 / 13.10.05
Any further news on this? They say the anthology will be published in November 2005 so I'm guessing mine didn't get in or I'd know by now.

Hey, I'm working on a story featuring a zombie out of sorts...trying to find the meaning of his life...starts out kind of odd and random, and seems to be heading for a more serious tone. Hmm. I'm not finished anyway.

They got 1800 stories:

And their website has gone from a publisher's website to a blog...

Zombie Aid

A quick update on Zombie Aid - Due to the immense number of stories we received we're behind schedule on this collection and regretfully have put publication of the collection back to the new year. But rest assured it will happen and if we haven't contacted you about your story yet it's no doubt in the long overdue 'to read' pile.

Apologies for any disappointment and watch this space for more news.
