Piano training software?

Hi all. One of my workmates is going for his grading in Classical Piano in a few weeks. Unfortunately his teacher has come down with a fairly serious illness and is going to be indisposed for the foreseeable future.

What my colleague is looking for is software that can help a piano student/player with the timing of notes. Is there anything out there that does that?

Is there any software in general that can help with clas. piana tutoring?

Hmmm... what do you mean by the timing of notes? Theory? Practical? What level of player?

If you mean playing in time then a metronome is probably going to be much more useful. Get one from any decent music shop...

If you mean theory relating to breves, minims, crotchets, quavers, semi-quavers, demi-semi-quavers, and hemi-demi-semi-quavers (goddamn those hemi-demi-semi-quavers), rests, dotted notes and triplets etc., then I'd recommend internet research or some classic A-B Theory of Music reference books.

Really, I think computers and classical piano have little business together, to be honest. Buy some CD's of great performances, and stay as far away from sampled piano modules and sequencers as possible. That way laziness lies.

Alternatively, lookie here

Or they might find this useful, again depending on proficiency and level.
