Is the tie becoming obsolete?

A tie is a big arrow pointing to your groin; a phallus pointing to a phallus. Women with ties still seem transgressive so it's a nice symbol to play with, I guess. If worn 'seriously', to impress, when not in work, well, I avoid places like that. The smarter the dresscode, the rougher the bar.

Occasionally wear white silk ties with the knot dangling somewhere around my nipples. Seen this an awful lot on the electro scene. Every second person at Electrogogo wears one, both sexes. Sometimes use them as a supplementary belt, tied in a proper knot somewhere off to the left or right. (Arsehole when you have to go to the lav & are too uncoordinated to re-tie them.)

Ladies who wear ties: do you buy men's dress shirts in your size, do you wear your ties with a collared blouse, or some other option? I find that the collars on my shirts don't accomodate the width of a tie.

I've been OK so far - I wear mine on fairly bloke-style collared shirts. Usually ladyshirts, though, because I don't have the breadth of torso that would make a man's shirt fit me. I have fairly thick ties, as well.

It is also worth checking, when you get shirts, if you fancy some tie wearing, if the top button actually does up. I've tried ladyshirts in the past which just aren't designed to be fully buttoned, and the top button is decorative and the fabric cut so you can't wrench it across to meet its lonely button-hole.

Ladies who wear ties

Are. The. Hottest. People. EVER.

Why can't I convince Meg to wear ties more often? I try to encourage it as much as possible.

Maybe it's a fear of looking a bit 'schoolgirl disco night', which can be a problem if, as Ex says, your shirts don't button up to the top and the tie is knotted low somewhere around the cleavage. But is not a problem at all if they do, so if that's not the issue just keep going with the encouragement...

Yes, I don't wear ties with skirts above the knee because it all goes a bit prefect-tastic. Very long skirts + tie = New Woman/1920s chic, and works nicely, I think.

Anyone tried wearing ties with anything other than a collar? I've seen ladies do it, but not chaps - can you sling one round a polo neck and succesfully look like an existentialist artist, rather than an utter fool?
