Finally got to pick up a copy of the magazine format reprint of the third Doomlord story from the 1980's Eagle and I'm here to recommend it. It might not be as worthy as Charlies War or as lastingly important as Judge Dredd but of the comics to come out of I.P.C. in the 70's and 80's but it's a huge amount of fun.
John Wagner and Alan Grants story of an alien defending the Earth against his own people rattles along at a great pace, with great gusto and humour. As for the artwork by Heinzl, it's a sort of mix of the detailed figure work of Jim Holdaway, the expressiveness of Ron Smith and the kind of convincing detail that only Chris Weston does these days.
This is a genuinely fun read that put a smile on my face. I suggest unplugging the intellect for a while and revelling in the stupid action and carnage. And who knows, if sales are high enough it might encourage John Wagner to write his much talked about Doomlord of the Rovers story.
