The time has come for me to retire my beloved classic shelltops and so i've been searching for the perfect new sneaker.
and i'm fucked.
I can't find anything that appeals to my exacting tastes. I'm after a classic black and white sneaker, but the problem with just getting more adidas is that everyone wears them. So i've been after something classic, but unique. Unfortunately shopping for kicks in Toronto bites. I've found nothing that satisfies me.
The thing is, I've been making custom shirts for a while now with stencils + spraypaint. So I've been thinking about just getting some white AF1s and doing them exactly how I want them. I have a good idea of what I'd like, but i have no idea how to properly customize sneakers. fucking up a 10 dollar vintage shirt is one thing, but i'd hate to make a mistake on a pair of 100 dollar shoes.
So I ask the Lith.
Is there anyone out there who's gained the wisdom of the custom kicks? any tips of what paint works, what markers don't work or if there is any sort of primer or fixative required so that your look lasts.
Also I'd love to hear about anyone else's hunt for their perfect sneakers. problems or successes with getting custom work done. Or simply the depths of depravity that you've sunk in order to get your feet into the perfect pair.
